| Recommended fence height? I am seeking the advise of other Rottweiler owners as to the proper size fence to assure that a 2 year old, appro. 100 lb dog that I am soon to acquire will be safe. The dog is very freindly, but I am concerned for my neighbors comfort level. |

| Re: Recommended fence height? I have a friend with a mini aussie that's maybe 18" high and weighs 40 pounds that can CLEAR 6 feet...I have a friend with a Giant Schnauzer that can clear 4.5 feet for a joke....Bear has yet to jump anything higher than the 9" practice jumps in flyball class...I think that given the right circumstances he could jump QUITE high! I think that 6 feet would be a minimum for a rottie.

| Re: Recommended fence height? Depending on the City/County there may be restrictions of fence height by building code. However, to circumvent this you can put a trellace ontop of a wooden fence to extend the fence height an additional 1-2 feet. Before you decide to put in a fence above 6 feet, check your building codes for regulations. |

| Re: Recommended fence height? I would strongly encourage you to use a 6' solid-type fencing. See-through fencing, which runs along a sidewalk, neighbor's yard or anywhere else that people/things can be seen will only build barrier frustration and encourage fence-running/barking.

| Re: Recommended fence height? I have a 6 foot wood fence for my Rotties. Definetly check with your village or township for the maximum heights. I had to get a special permit to build my fence as 4 ft. is the limit in my area. |

| Re: Recommended fence height? In my area you are required to get a permit before building a fence. I haven't looked into height restrictions but I have a pretty good guess it will be 4ft. There are not many fenced houses in this town, the few that are have 4 ft chainlink. I have seem a few with 6ft privacy but they are on different street. When we wanted to build a garage we found out that one rule in town is that all the houses on one block must be the same. No one house can stick out farther then the one next to it, this includes even carports. They want a nice "clean" line when looking down the block at the houses, a 6ft privacy fence would block the view so I assume when we build a fence it will be 4ft chain. I don't think with MY dog it will be a problem. She isn't a jumper (we have tried to teach her to hop a 6inch from the ground broom, but it takes ALOT of cookies! ) and if we find her trying to go over a 4ft I would immediatly put in a IF to keep her off the fence line. |

| Re: Recommended fence height? A 4ft fence would not protect her from outsiders. She can still put her feet up on the fence and some people would have an issue with that or antagonize her. Definitely check with your town to see if you could put up a 6ft. privacy fence. Just because your street has 4 ft fences, does not mean that you would not be able to put up a higher one. You may be able to arrange the fencing, where the shorter one would be in the front and the higer part on the side & back area. Then your dog would only be able to be in front area when you are with her. My dogs are not allowed to run around by themselves, I am always outside with them, or, they are in their dogruns or kennel. Many of us, Rottie owners, do this! |

| Re: Recommended fence height? Our kennel area is 24'x48' and is composed of a combination of 6' heavy gauge chainlink and 6' stockade with a concrete footing around the perimeter of the fence (goes down about 2') so the dogs can't dig under the fence. The gate has a double locking system.

As I was saying "all the houses have to look the same" I should mention my house is on two streets, so the tall fence in back would not work for me. My house faces a small street in the front, and the backyard is on a wider street that goes to the schools. All houses must look the same front AND back. Even if you put up a small shed for garden tools it must fit within the guides and have a permit and be within so many feet of the house so as not to "obstruct the view of the block". Even plants that grow to tall must be trimmed so they can be seen over. |

The kennel has two huge pine trees in it so they always have shade and Caine just loves it when he can get Mikk to chase him around the trees. With that being said, I have to admit they are hardly ever in the kennel unless we are working outside and can't watch them closely.
