barking issues

hello,

we got our dog back yesterday as he has been at the kennels for just under 3 wks now, they are just fine together now as inka doesnt seem to be in season anymore and hopefully can resume her training classes.
The only trouble we have now is with khan, we have quite a big garden but most of the grass is fenced off, especially in the winter months when it is wet and soggy, the dogs still have a large amount to run around in but khan will insist at jumping up on the fence and barking at every little bird he see's it is becoming quite bad as the neighbours have picked up on it, we just dont kno how to stop him any more. It is only blackbirds really and a few robins and they are at the back of the lawn and no where near him, they could also be in the trees. Is there anything we can do to help the situation?

Also how long should be wait til we can have inka spayed? she has just finished her first season.

xxxxxx

Re: barking issues

First thing is you have to be out in the yard with her, if you expect to train her not to bark at everything. (later, near a window or door may be OK too) I'd try giving her something else she must do instead. A "sit" perhaps?

I've worked with my girls since they were each just wee things. I didn't want them to bark at joggers or people walking by minding their own business. I tried several words/sounds to get their attention. Believe it or not, "Ahht!" and "No!" didn't work. For some reason, a sing-songy "Oh-h-h, what's that? You don't have permission to bark..." caught their attention. When this wasn't enough or they were too excited, I added, "Sit!" Which they did.

It took a bit of work. The oldest is going to be 5 at the end of July and the younger is 2. But it's the most wonderful thing to have dogs who don't bark at things that are unimportant.

Re: barking issues

That sounds like a really good idea thank you.
When we are not here though its a bit worrying to whether he is barking or not. we have been looking around and there is a device which you mount onto the wall and it sends off sounds which humans cannot here but they can, i havent really researched them so i havent bought 1 yet, just want to kno if anyone else has used them or anything! xx

Re: barking issues

I use a sonic bark stopper on my neighbors dogs in secret. I'll tell you that it is far more effective when in the audible setting! They usually have settings to ultrasonic or audible. I moved in to this house in March, and the neighbors dogs would bark like mad at 4am!!! After I bought the bark stop this was greatly reduced but not entirely eliminated. When I'm entertaining my family, they all bring their dogs and I turn it to audible with 4 dogs in the neighbors yards and 4 more in mine it helps to keep them all quiet. It does not seem to hurt the dogs in any way. They just seem confused when it goes off. Hope this helps.
