Take crate to kennel?

In a couple weeks I will have to kennel my 7 month old puppy.

I was thinking about bringing his crate to use at the kennel for his three night stay. The crate is wire and easy to fold, so it would fit in the dog run easily.

I thought this might give him a little more sense of security. ?

Any thoughts out there as to whether this will be beneficial?

Thanks a bunch!

Troy

Re: Take crate to kennel?

I would contact the kennel and ask if it would be allowed. I would also ask if they would be able to crate him at night but allow him in the run/playyard during the day.

Re: Take crate to kennel?

I'm wondering if a kennel, even a wire one might be a problem for them when they do their daily cleaning...I think it's worth asking for sure and a good kennel will do what they can to make you and our pet comfortable.

If not, what about taking his blanket and/or bed so that he has something that feels and smells like home.

Re: Take crate to kennel?

The kennel our dogs stay at will allow them but I never bring them. Our dogs are crated during the day but not at night. Since they are kenneled together I thought that two crates might be a bit much for one run. The lady at the kennel said that most dogs don't use them because they have heated floors in the winter and cooled in the summer and that most dogs prefer the floor. I would check with the staff at the kennel. Also how big are the runs?

Re: Take crate to kennel?

We don't kennel our rotties, we have a petsitter instead. However, in order to help alleviate separation anxiety (our 5 yo rescue seems to have issues) I leave an old t-shirt with my scent when I leave. It is my understanding that he carries this with him wherever he goes and sleeps with it like a pillow at night. My petsitter has told me he is much calmer since I started this practice. Also, staying at our home vs a kennel seems to help keep him calmer...I have 3 rotties...so same $ whether kennel or petsitter so I opted for comfort and overnight petsitter. However, I have had to kennel when the house was being redone and we kenneled in 1 room all 3 and they did much better than if they had been separated. Good luck!
