my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

Well i just moved to this neighborhood ( the whole place has just been built ever house in this area) but alot of people with dogs here tell me that i shouldnt keep my dogs in the yard because people steal them ! and this almost happened this morning. my dogs wake at 5 am in the morning so around 530 ish i open up there garage and let them out, the follow me to the back yard were i put there food and water bowl. and after they are done eating i let them play in the yard, but this morning i was kinda hungrey so i left the dog's unattended for like 2 minutes to go get a popsicle . but then before i even opened the frig door i hear my dogs barking like crazy so i ran out side to check on them and i found 2 guys trying to steal brownie !!!!!!, but once they saw me they drop the dog and ran into there car and drove off . ohhhhh im soooo pissed right now. why would they want to steal a dog !!! hope fuly once i move to my 2nd house there wont be a problem like this ever again ! to bad my neighbor was out (hes a cop) he would of knocked those guys out :]. and now i will never let my dogs out side with out me there :].

Here are some picture of my puppies

Were your dogs in a fenced area?

The fact that your dogs were not aggressive towards someone not presenting a bodily threat to them is not incorrect. If the person was trying to hit them or otherwise physically harm them, then the dog would be justified in reacting.

If your yard is not fenced, your dogs should NEVER EVER be outside off-leash or unattended.

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

As part of the adoption agreement for Mia, I had to agree not to keep her outside unless she was supervised. The shelter owner explained that breeds like Rottweilers and Pitbulls are in danger of being stolen by gangs or other "unsavory" characters because of the breeds reputations. Even though the crime is low where I live, I am still very mindful of this and never leave her unattended in my fenced yard!

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

Its a scarey situation you were in, take it as a lesson learned and never leave them outside again without you. Just like having a child, it only takes a minute for something to go wrong. Most of us here will tell you our dogs are not for protection, they are VERY people friendly. They really dont even protect them selves because they don't realise that guy with a treat in his hand offering them a car ride is a threat (Think of a stranger with candy to a child). They DID however bark to let you know someone was there, which to be honest, I kind of like (Arwen really only does this at night time when I can't see and hear as well as she can, I work nights so on days off I am outside with her at odd hours, like 1am. She doesn't bark unless she hears a person and then we run inside till they are gone. ).

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

What part of Phoenix do you live in, that people have been driving around stealing dogs? I'm really curious.

And were they in the back yard or the front? I'm a little confused about your reference to "their garage" and just where they were when someone tried to steal them.

In any event, you obviously should never leave them unattended. And, if you see that car again, get the license number and call the police.

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

my yard isnt fenced yet. and yes i will never leave my dogs un attended again.

observer i got my thing wrong. I did live in phoenix ( my condo ) because my parents own a gastation here, but then they bought a house in buckeye ( dunno were that is) and they bought another house in good year ( dunno were this is either). By meaning to "their garrage" my house has 2 garrages , 1 garage can hold up to 2 cars, and then we have another one across the yar that can hold 1 car. which we let the dogs stay in

That's very scary. I hope you learned from this experience. I would definately report it to the local PD. The sad thing is that our dogs are not even safe unattended in our fenced in yards. The point here is that fenced or not fenced, no animal should be left unattended. This includes "outdoor" cats. So many bad things happen to animals. There are so many rotten people out there.

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

Why are your pups staying in a garage and not in the house? You can, and should, crate train them, in the house. And, I guess I'm still not clear on where you live-- I know where both Goodyear and Buckeye are. If there is no fenced yard for you to take the pups out in to play and potty, then you are going to have to take them out on leashes and watch them all the time. And then, you should read all the puppy threads here that talk about raising two puppies at once. There are some very specific things you need to do to be sure they each bond to you and NOT to each other.

Since your pup is still young why are you left them in your garage? At that age they're still vunerable to diseases and worse to thieves. Try to put them in a crate and bring them inside the house. By the way, those pups will be friendly to eveybody stranger or not 'til they're about a year old. So just don't leave them outside.

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

About 4 years ago, I had my eng bull in the yard. At that time I only had a 4 ft chain link fence. He was outside while I was washing the floor. Dopey Augie, my presa, was howling like a nut so I let him out. Thank god I did. I went outside to see why he was in a frenzy and sure enough there was a guy with a leash trying to get Mack over the fence. Augie leaped right over the fence and pinned the guy. My neigbbors called 911. What a scene it was! I then had a 6 ft stockade put in and it is padlocked.
Don't take chances. Someone will steal your dogs to either breed them for cash, fight them or use them as bait!
Dogs belong in the house, I say and until you get a suitable fence- keep your eyes on them at all times!

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

I'm in Goodyear, AZ and I hope you don't plan on keeping the dogs in garage much longer it reaches 120 outside and is even hotter inside my garage. Are you sure you are able to care properly for the puppies. They need a yard and to be supervised. They also need to be kept cool in the summer, Rottweilers can NOT tolerate heat at all much less a summer in AZ. They must be kept inside with the AC running it costs me $300 per month in the summer because my air runs continually for the dogs and cats.

Right, Diane, I wasn't even thinking about that part of it.... it's supposed to heat up fast this week, and be 110 on Friday....those pups better not be in a garage! Do a search on heatstroke here.... it can happen at MUCH lower temperatures than we are talking about coming here this week!

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

Its been in the 90s here in Michigan this weekend and very humid and my pup goes out to the bathroom and if im outside for a few minutes she goes under the deck and digs in the dirt and lays in in, So I know your dogs are hot in a garage.. In this heat animals die and people for that matter quickly I had to move my rabbits under my deck since its so cool there so they didnt die. There has been a few dog nappings near me, nobody would try and steal my Am.Bulldog but my puppy they would I would report it

Re: my pups arent to agressive to strangers ...

It is our job to protect them. While I expect my dogs to react in the event someone breaks in my home, I don't expect that they should have to protect themselves outside. I can only image what those people had in mind for your puppies. Perhaps they thought they were strays and simple uncared for and abandoned that is the first thing that would come to my mind. However, if I was trying to get them in my truck I wouldn't take off when you came out I would ask you what your dogs were doing outside without you especially without an enclosed area. They were probably on there way to being pitbull bait or sold off for medical research.

You need to take care better care of these puppies or face animal cruelty charges, there is no possible way a dog can tolerate the heat in AZ in a garage or outside. Get them crates and keep them inside where it is cool. If you can't do that it is time to find someone who can.
