Do all Rotties need a fenced in yard? I was wondering, when a Rottie, would we need a 6-foot high fenced in yard? We have 40 acres, and have never tied a dog up. thanks, scoop70.

Scoop, most people don't have 40 acres, so yes. It's part of being a responsible owner to both the dog and the people who live around you.

You may have 40 acres, but you still have a road in front of your house. Dogs being dogs, you know which direction they'll chose to run. ------------------

40 acres!I am so jealous! My Dad bought a new home last year on 17acres. He was set on not having a fence on his new property. The day after they moved his 3 dogs decided that it was a lot more fun to chase squirrels than listen to Dad, so the fence was up in less than 48 hours. It is for your convenience, and piece of mind to know that your dog has a safe and secure place to be. Then they will not be getting hurt or in TROUBLE.His fenced area is off of one side of the house and it is very convenient for him when they want to go in or out.Good luck Lisa E.

scoop70: We have 70 acres and you can't see our house from the road. We still fenced a portion of our back yard (abt 1-1/2 acres). Just because you have 40 acres doesn't mean your dog might not get off your property; Joanne's comment about the road is valid. Fence a portion of your yard. It's been a huge convenience for us and I'm so glad we did it.

You don't need a fence if you dog lives in the house, and you take him out on lead. A rottie in the middle of 40 acres can be out of that area in less than 5 minutes.

I would always have a fenced yard or kennel in our yard because it also protects your dog. We try to keep a six foot chainlink fence. You can buy the six foot tall dog runs instead of fencing forty acres. It would no doubt be much cheaper. ![]()
