Advice needed I am thinking of getting a Rott and would like advice. I have 2 dogs. One is a 13 year old Shihtzu who does not have an agressive bone in her body. The other is a 7 year old Pug. She is not agressive and is very sweet but once in a while she will jump on my other dog when she gets jealous. I want to know how this will factor in with a Rott. Is this a dangerous situation or can it be worked out. I am a great friend to dogs and I want to get a Rott that will be a great friend. I know the most important step is to get a reputable breeder. Any suggestions/advice would be very much appreciated. This is my first post so please forgive any blunders.

Re: Advice needed It would be better to adopt from shelter or even better---a Rottweiler rescue group. Offer to have your 2 dogs meet the Rottweiler before adopting to make sure that it would be a good match. It may take more than one visit. The best luck.

| Re: Advice needed Getting a rescue does have the advantage of the dogs meeting a few times before you bring it home. Additionally, it's less expensive. There will be a settling in period. And you'll still have to train and work. Now, there's also nothing wrong with doing some research and finding a reputable breeder. One who breeds to standard and turns out well temperamented pups. Parents should have been OFA'd and health certified. You still have to train and work your dog. Good luck making your chioce!

Re: Advice needed My two Rottweilrs just love the Hairless Chinese Crested that Im fostering now he has been with us aince Aug. and they have gotten along very well. You could contact a local rescue and foster a Rottweiler in need to see how your dogs take to haveing a new dog in the house. Michele

Re: Advice needed I had a Lhasa when I first adopted Buster (a Rottie), who was 18 months. Now, the Lhasa had quite a "small dog" attitude that never phased Buster. Later, I got another Rottie (JR). We then got another Lhasa and a Shih Tzu (the first Lhasa had already crossed the Bridge). Buster loved all dogs. I feel the key was slow introductions over a period of time. Each dog is different, but for us, it took a minimum of 4-5 weeks before I was comfortable leaving the dogs without direct supervision. If you get a Rottie, be prepared for strange looks. When people see a Rottie and small dogs getting along together, they are just bewildered. Good luck
