Advice needed

I have decided to get a Rott and I have done a lot of reading and research. I am a true animal lover and have several dogs, cats & birds. One of my dogs is a Pug. She is very sweet but once in a while she will jump on my other dog due to her being jealous. My other dog is 13 years old and does not have an aggressive bone in her body. I have no other big or dominant animals. I want to know how this will affect getting a Rott pup. Is this a dangerous situation or one that can be worked out? I want to make the best decision possible. I know the most important step is to start with a reputable breeder. I am very good with all animals and have never run upon an animal that did not like me or has hurt me. I really like animals more than I do people and I prefer to be around animals. I am a great dog friend and I want to make sure that I get a great Rott friend. Any advice is very much appreciated. This is my first post so please forgive any blunders.

Welcome.....and if it makes you feel any better, there are a few people here with both pugs and rotts.....

Search thru puppy development...specially about socializing a new pup into your home....you will find a lot of helpful information.

Re: Advice needed

Think about getting a male. We have two personal females and wouldn't get another female for all the money in the world. The male/female combo is the easiest to get to work.

While you're doing research, look into rescue. There are many nice dogs in rescue, both sexes and all ages, who would make a wonderful pet.

I know.

Our two girls are rescues and our latest foster boy, a 2 yo, is under my computer desk, working on a beef marrow bone.

Re: Advice needed

I have a neutered male rescue Cocker Spaniel. At age 9 and again at 11.5, he slept by the crates of each of my two girls when they first came home. They are now ages 4 and 1.5.

I've never had a problem with them getting along. But I'm watchful and guide their actions. If ever I felt things were getting too rough, I let them know. They are ALL obedience trained.

I find training, and not just bringing a dog home and letting them grow up, is paramount. Strange to say it, but I've known some who seem to think otherwise. Rottweilers are intellegent and thrive in a learning home. Buy a well bred, well temperamented animal from a reputable breeder, or get a recommended rescue. Just plan on teaching.
