microchip ID

I took my 3mos old male Rottie to the Army Vet today and he says the Rottie must have a micro chip ID implant. Does anyone know if there has been any problems with these implants, or are they O.K,?

My sister had her Dal microchiped about a year ago. Flag is about 3 years old (guessing--he's a rescue). It was done between his shoulder blades. He hasn't had any problems.

Both of my girls are microchiped. I had it done at the same time they were spayed by the vet. I haven't had any problems at all. I have it scanned every time I take one of them to the vet just to make sure it's still where the vet injected it and that it still works. I see it as an extra safety measure--if they would ever get out of the yard and lose their ID tags they still have a permanent ID on them. Most Humane Societies and vets in our area have the scanners in case a stray is brought in. That way they can try to locate the owners.

My dog was microchipped, as a very young pup, by the breeder. She's now 5 1/2 years old and has never had a problem of any kind with it.

No problems with Desmond's chip. It was inserted when I had his hips x-rayed (OFA very good). I'll have it scanned the next time we visit the vet just to make sure its still working. Desmond's mom.

No problems that I have ever heard. It's a great idea for another proof of ownership,if
your baby is ever lost and found by an honest
person recovery rate is high. If you are Army
the national registration only will allow for
one change of address but allows for a second
contact person. Good luck.

A friend of mine has a chip in his German Shepard. He's had no problems.

Thanks Guys and Gals, you've made me feel better. It'll be injected this Monday. As a matter of fact after reading this thread, my wife has also desided to get the Pom done as well. Thanks again.

No problems here either. Cisco was chipped while he was under to be neutered.

It's definitely worth it. There is now a universal scanner, I'm told, so that they can read chips from all the different manufacturers. (This was a problem in the past, each chip could only be read by its own scanner.) Be sure to send in the registration form, too. It's only a nominal amount of money.
