How do the dogs know if this is a friendly teenage neighbor or a burglar, home invader, rapist ect…? there’re not allowed to protect the house? If it was in fact a neighbor who’s been there before, then that’s a different story. Personally, I would have had the gate locked. Hope the girl is ok. |

| I haven't heard anymore yet on the girl's condition and I kinda wonder about the whole thing also. I think the problem they had was that the male wouldn't let go of the girl, neighbors had to pry him off. I don't really understand the problem with the female though. From what I understand, she just bit once if even that and that's more understandable- she had pups.....I'll try to listen and update this when I hear more.. |

| Pit Bull attacks! A 13 year old girl is in the hospital in fair condition after being attacked by 2 Pit Bulls. I live in louisville where the attack happened. The girl entered the dogs' yard when she heard puppies crying. The dogs then attacked her. Neighbors had to fend off the male so she could leave. They seem to think that the female was just protecting her pups but the males attack seemed to be too agressive for just protecting. The dogs are at the Jefferson County Animal Control awaiting their fate and the owner is being charged with harboring dangerous animals. The gate was latched but not locked so therefore a accident waiting to happen that's why the man is being charged. How horrbile for the innocents- the child, the dogs, and the neighbors who had to fight the Pit Bull... |

| I’ve heard that Pitt Bulls don’t have an “off switch”, once they clamp on you can’t get them off. Not sure if it’s true though. The fact that he didn’t attack the neighbors who ‘pried him off” makes me think the male did not know that teenage girl. |

| I think this depends on the dog, I had a Pit growing up and when he fought with a doberman once, he got a grip but all my dad had to yell was drop it and Spudz let go. I guess it has alot to do with how much of a fighting heritage each individual dog has. Spudz father lived down the street and he was basically the neighborhood dog which caused quite a stir when anyone new moved in. His grandparents lived on the street over and were the sweetest dogs also. So mostly I think it's genetics and how they're raised...... |

| That’s what I thought. Surprisingly I got that information from a reputable Rott breeder. Perhaps some prejudice there? The more I’m learning about Pitt Bulls on this forum the more I’m considering one for my next rescue. |

| Pits are wonderful dogs when given the time, the love, and affection they need to become part of their community. My Spudz was one of the best dogs I've ever seen and his father-well words just couldn't describe that dog! I think adopting a Pit and giving it a second chance at life is just wonderful! They do have a strong prey drive but tend to be one of the most obedient dogs I've ever seen so it's usually not hard to control as long as you have control over the dog. We used to put Spudz on down stays and forget about him and an hour or so later we'd remember and he'd be in the same place as we placed him at the stay. Very obedient dog. shepherds tend to be a little more independent that that from what I've noticed and heard. They will stay but come looking for you if you're gone too long... Just be careful because some dogs are bred for the pit fighting in their lines, not to say that these dogs can't be good dogs but probaly a little more dog than most people are ready to handle. Good Luck if you decide to adopt one! |

Very impressive. Sounds like Spuds was a GREAT dog with Great owners. Thanks for the info & advice on Pit Bulls. Any updates on the “attack” story? |

| It's pretty much been the same news as before. I think the girl is at home now, recuperating. That's about all I know...... |
