Family Dog

Hi there,

maybe you can help on this one.

What would you recommend as a family dog. I have some kind of affection for rotties, even more when I read that they are defensive dogs towards their families. But how hard are they to train them to accept a family environment including kids. Are they tolerable with em? I am also under the impression that they do not have the tendency to excessively bark. Is this correct?

So, what would you recommend as a family dog, for house guarding, companion, minimum neighbor annoyance (barking), and why not, for cuddling purposes? How do Germen Sheperds compare with rotties?

Re: Family Dog

The short answer is, I recommend a LOT more research. It will take much more education on your part to be successful with whatever type of dog you take into your home and family.

There is no perfect dog that will automatically do all you ask above. It's careful selection, training, socialization, and every day care and management that makes a good dog of any breed.
