breeders I want to know about shows in the Chicagoland and some reputable breeders. I plan on getting a Rot within the next year, but I want a good dog. I go to a shop just about every weekend and see Rots there and like them, but hesitant because I don't know the history of the parents(temperment, ofa cert, other offspring) or how they were brought up. Is OFA certification important?

YES OFA IS VERY IMPORTANT! There are other tests they should have also. If I were looking for a pup not only would I want to see both parents & check the temperments but I would like to see off spring of the parents also. Any breeder should be proud to show you the off spring. You need to take someone with you that has some knowledge in the breed to help you. I don't know of any breeders in your area but I am in Calif. so that is a ways away. Good luck. ------------------

You "go to a shop just about every weekend and see Rots there and like them..." Please please please don't buy your Rottie from a pet store--for that matter, absolutley no dog or cat should be bought from a pet store. If you want a Rottie, find a reputable breeder or adopt a rescue dog.

Chicago is a very active Rottweiler area. There is a large Rottweiler Club that holds several shows during the year. Next one is October 14-16, Dupage County Fairgrounds, Wheaton, ILL. You will see the cream of the crop and should make some good contacts.
