sadie

the dog i just returned because shes not good around children and grolwed and snapped at my daughter s face,
they already have her add up stating shes great with kids selling her for 50.00
I tryed contacting the humane agent for her city but hes not sure if we can legally stop her from selling her to a family with kids.
This so sucks, whats wrong with some people now a days, they new what happened and yet will put another family/kids at risk just to get rid of her...

anyone know if i can do anything else to prevent this....

Re: sadie

Can you take out an ad with your experiences with these people and name names? List it under dogs for sale?

Re: sadie

DO you think contacting a local Rottweiler Rescue would be of any help?
Once, they know the facts and everything that happened they might decide to take the dog. I would give it a shot.

Re: sadie

My first thought is that you could call the newspaper's "classified ad" department and tell them that this person is lying in their ad and tell them why - maybe they will pull the ad. Second thought, if your town has a Dog Warden, call and explain the situation, see if he can do anything - be sure you mention that this is a dangerous dog. The only other thing I can think of would be to call the police and explain the situation, an see if they can do anygthing.

Unfortunately, it costs money to put a dog down - in my area, it is rather expensive, $100+ for a large dog. By selling the dog, not only will they be rid of it, but they will also get some money.

Re: sadie

It’s amazing how we read about selfish and uncaring individuals like this, yet it is still shocking to hear.

I was in the same situation as you a month ago. However, I didn't send him back to the Breeder (knew they didn't want to be bothered). I tried contacting a local Rottweiler Rescue but didn’t hear back so I brought him to Animal Rescue. When I called a few days later to check on him, I was told he was with Animal Rescue. I was happy to learn this and wish him the best. Personally, I believe there isn’t much hope.

Perhaps your local Township may be able to provide helpful advice for direction and possible actions.

And what would rescue do with such a dog??

My Rottie group won't take a dog who's not good with children. Since the world is full of kids and people who have kids or know people who have kids, placing such a dog safely is difficult.

Re: sadie

this is so troubling to read. while i can sympathize with the OP not wanting to expose her children to potential danger, i can't help but fear this dog -- and other "problem" dogs -- are on a one-way street. the minneapolis-area rottweiler rescues appear to be over capacity, to the point that dogs are being euthanized because the rescues don't have fosters enough to take them in. since these organizations are so full, they're also more cautious in deciding which animals to pull from animal control.

since sadie is a mixed breed dog (i looked up the classified ad on her in the local paper). i'd be surprised if either of the rott rescues would accept her. even the many mixed breed rescues are so full right now that chances aren't good.

Thumbs up Re: sadie

I know i def agree with you, about everything you stated
shes mixed with either lab,or shepard.
she has the hair like a shep though and def overprotective like one.
my opinion since im experienced with both breeds is def shepard not lab.
She wouldnt allow any man near me,even my hubby had to coax her with treats to get her to settle.
I wrote her an email like the officer told me,stating that if they go ahead and adopt her out to any man/children and something does happen i will testify on the new owners behave. Also that the humane agent of st.paul has been notified.
The lady actually called me tonight and wanted to know why i wouldnt give her another chance,i was so flustered i went on a rant! Shes putting her dogs safety and the familys at risk and stated that very clearly.
It sad really what if she did it to a family where they wont tolerate it and take actions as far as hurting her.. into their own hands.....
I havent even felt at ease in these last days and cant get her off my mind.
We def had a bond that was very strong, however she didnt want the rest of my family, just me and that i just cant have.
my heart goes out to her,her owners changed everything in the new add, age, they told me they got her as a pup but now state that they got her at 6 months of age.....great with kids.

so im sitting here frustrated trying to find a rescue or someone who can take her,i think if i called with a person,or place they might be willing to surrender.
worth a shot anyhow, but alot of rescues wont take in dogs with issues as strong as hers so its going to be very hard.

as far as her add its still on there and i never heard back from the lady, she had to talk to her boss, although she was willing to take it off herself she didnt have the authority.

Re: sadie

If it is 'should have done' advice, here is mine.

keep dog leashed, kenneled, or crated at home. the only situations are controlled situations, until dog has been in the home for 2-3 months. train, take to obedience classes for socialization, very gradually allow dog more freedom in home situation.

If a dog I'd adopted showed definate instability of temperament, I would take it to the vet and give it scratches and loves while it went to sleep.

Re: sadie

and that, debbiej, is probably the greatest kindness we can offer such a dog in the long run. i think it's preferable to shuffling the animal off to a succession of homes and the very real possibility of a deteriorating quality of life or outright abuse. i'd rather hold her close and ease her on her way than leave her to be put down and then tossed in a 55 gallon drum to be disposed of later.

Save your time, save your breath.

Rescue won't touch this dog. The dog has too many issues--she's bad with kids, bad with men. And, she's a mix, to boot.

Rescue is AWASH with dogs--simply AWASH. There's not enough people in rescue to help the dogs who don't have issues.

The kindest thing for this dog is to be be put down.
