is this normal for a 10mnth old in heat?

scooby my 10 month old has been in season for the first time for 14 days now and seems to be off her normal food (dry food) and only seems to be eating meat which we have been giving her plenty of but she looks like she has lost a bit of weight around the stomach area is this normal?
also how long will she stay in season?
the blood did start very watery now it is a lot more thick could she near the end?

any tips or advise would be great

Re: is this normal for a 10mnth old in heat?

their heat can last from 21-30 days or so.
usually,it starts darker, thicker and more amounts, then gets lighter and watery.if you caught it from the veeery begining, it might have looked like a little phlegm discharge at first.the vulva area gets swollen and diminishes with time.
they can get more homey, moody, etc during their heat.discharge can last about 14-21 days, but can still be able to get pregnant at any time in their cycle when they ovulate and progesterone goes up.that's why we suggest to keep away from males for up to 1 month.
they can be a little picky with food, maybe even throw up once or twice.if you baby them and feed them scraps or other snacks, they can get picky and want the "good stuff".
they also tend to shed heavily right before they come in heat(about 1 1/2 months before, for mine)and seem to look thinner when in heat.
if your dog refuses to eat, starts to have diarrhea/vomitting,acts lethargic, have her checked out.are your parasite checks up to date?
are you also ready for possible false pregnancies?that can also be fun.

Finding any extra dog hair about the house? My girls blow coat about the same time as their heat cycle. Might that be why she appears "slimmer" to you?

Re: is this normal for a 10mnth old in heat?

Thanks for the replies

yes she is losing a lot of hair at the moment but we thought that could just be her baby coat

it has been a very long time since we have had a puppy and i got to admit you do tend to forget a lot of stuff, thank god for sites like this

her mood is still very good but we have noticed that now she is starting to get very protective of our house and if she hears anything outside she does a very good job of letting us know, our only other problem is that she does not like me being near my wife and she tends to try and barge my wife out the way from me

thanks once again
