if he weighs about 70lbs at 8 months how big should he get?

My boy is about 65-70 lbs right now at a little over 8 months and I'm just wondering how big that should translate to as an adult. Asking because we spent a good deal of money on a cedar wood dog house that is becoming a chew toy and we need to get a new more chew resistent one and I want it to be big enough to last a while.

How big were the dam and sire? You can usually tell how big the dog will grow from the lines of your dogs.

Are you sure about his weight now? When was he weighed last? I would probably count on him being about 100 lbs.

How much time is he spending outside and in his dog house alone?? Boredom and lonleness...my be the reason for him chewing his dog house.

Try to spend more time with him and get another dog house that he cannot chew.

why don't you just buy an xlarge dog house so he can't outgrow it
the plastic igloo works pretty good though any dog house can be chewed

Guess you can compare the above to a crate!

40 x 40x 30 inches doghouse should be big enough for an adult Rottweiler.

all kidding aside
in the beginning i do believe a crate is must
makes housebreaking that much easier
'cause if you're not house broken
you can't be a "house doggie"
not in my house anyway

Amen.

Our current foster is 10 mo old. He's a relentless chewer, simply relentless. If we can't watch him--by this I mean, have him in the same room with us, positioned so we can watch him--he's either in the pen or crated.

A large, not extra large resin (more chew resistant) type dog house should do for when he needs to be out. Some cedar shavings loose inside will add to the warmth his body will create. (too large=too much free air to heat=COLD)

A 65-70 lb, at 8 mos Rottweiler will most likely continue to grow until he is nearly 3 years. My guess, not knowing his parents or how fast his lines mature, would be a 100-110 lb dog full grown.

Re: if he weighs about 70lbs at 8 months how big should he get?

Logan was always about 10 pounds under the 10 pounds a month guestamate, so he too was about 70 at 8 months. He is now 20 months old and still only weighs 80 pounds. I highly doubt he (Logan) will be even 90 pounds full grown. If you know what his parents are like that will help.

Re: if he weighs about 70lbs at 8 months how big should he get?

Okay, I'll try to answer everybody's questions.

I got him at five months, a rescue, so haven't seen his parents.

It's been a couple months since he has been weighed so it is an estimate.

He spends 2-3 12 hour days a month in his run, also occassionally a few hours here and there when we put him outside in his run while we run errands or something like that. Otherwise he is a house dog. He is crated at night or when alone and not in the dog run.

Yes he is chewing when left alone for 12 hours because he is bored, but I work an hour from home and can't always find someone to take him on the days my roommates and my schedules overlap. It's not too frequent occurance though. He does have a dog door, so if he ever gets past the destructive phase he will be allowed access to the yard and the house. But so far this is just a disaster waiting to happen and has to be crated/kenneled when alone!

Thats the thing I want a dog house that will fit him when it is cold outside so he won't be too cold during the day when he is out.

Our dog is almost 6 1/2 months now and he is 81 pounds. Don't know where he is going to end as full grown. I think it's hard to tell about your dog to. How big are his parents? Some dogs that has been really small in the early stage can be the biggest ones full grown.
