Getting papers

Hello all,

Might be a stupid question but here goes. I bought a rottweiler and she doesnt have papers/ registered with any organiztion. I was wonder if there is any way to get your dog papered or does that have to come from a registered breeder?

Thanks

Yes, papers must come from registered parents and from the organization they are registered with.

I do not know if Canada has ILP provisions. In the US with AKC, a purebred dog can be registered so that it can participate in performance events (never conformation) if there is documentation that it has been desexed and with photos that demonstrate it is a purebred.

Why are the papers important?
Were the sire or dam of your pups registered? In Canada it's illegal to sell pups as purebred unless they are registered.

If you are planning to do some sort of activity with her you can get an ILP, but it goes under a different name here.
Contact the CKC for more information.

I was just wondering about the papers cause I might entertain the thought of breeding her down the road as she is a beautiful dog and I heard that the life expectancy is a little longer if they have a litter or two of pups.

You should consider doing reasearch of ethical breeding. There are a lot of helpful posts on this site alone.

OH...LORD!!!!
Please do not breed her. In fact you are wrong...her life will be shorter if you breed her. There is much more chance of her getting mammary cancer, pyometra ( a uterus full of puss), and other reproductive cancers. Also many dogs and their pups die giving birth.

Please go to the Breeding Forum and read " Why You should not breed Your Nice Dog".
Get in touch with your local Rottweiler Rescue, and help out with all of the pups and dogs that need help. All of the owner's of these dogs also thought they should breed their "beautiful, pretty smart dogs."

Please be a responsible pet owner...spay your girl , train her and love her. We do not need more back yard bred Rottweilers...thousands of them are dying everyday in Canada because there are not enough good homes.

Ethical??? This dog does not even have papers. She would be breeding in theory "mutts"!! Not that "papers" make any dog breed worthy.

I agree she needs to be doing some research.

That's my point. This person should not breed! I was saying that he should do some research to understand why his dog should not breed.

Oh I know.
I just feel like I am banging my head against the wall.

Been a member on these forums for so many years...try to get people to understand why breeding their "beautiful, nice, pretty, smart dogs" is a terrible idea. We have so much information printed up here. All of the "stickys" in the Breeding Forum.

I have a rescue Rott. Someone also thought it would be a great idea to breed her. She had at least 2 litters before the age of 2...and then she was taken to the shelter where she was left to die. Thankfully a volunteer from Adopt-a-Rott pulled her the day before she was to die...I fostered her...and we kept her.
I shudder to think of what happened to her pups. China sure was not breeding material.

Anyone wanting to breed should volunteer with Rott Rescue for a year...and then see what they think.

Jesus people, I was asking a question and later said I would follow the advice given. I'm not out trying to get my pup knocked up at 3 mths old to pay the rent. Cut me some slack here, I thought this was a place you could ask questions and get helpful advice, not get a new hole torn for asking a question.

Please forgive us. It really does sound like you're looking to do the right thing and are taking advice as given. The HUGE numbers of irresponsible breeders out there are in large part responsible for the bad reputation of breeds like the Rottweiler (breeding dogs with incorrect temperaments, placing dogs in inappropriate homes, etc.), and for the numbers of Rottweilers in rescue, so people tend to get a little sensitive about things like this. Please stick around, sounds like you're off to a good start.

I once thought of studding my Rottweiler. After contacting the North Carolina Rescue and talked about how many Rotts are there, I decided not too. I have yet neutered my boy though. As the thought hurts me. However I am thinking of getting a female Rott. I am looking inot rescue as my boys is 4 years old now. I think it would be nice for him to have a play mate.
