Talking registration papers

my sister has just gotten out of a 10 yr relationship and owns 2 rotweilers she wanted me to ask if anyone knows how she can change the dogs papers they both have there names on the papers one is the co-owner; how does she go about takeing the other person off the papers? the other person hasn't had anything to do with the dogs since they left the household in april.the dogs are registered thru the akc....should she check with them? thought maybe someone here would know something....cause you guys seem to know alot! thanks for takeing the time to read this! hope to hear from someone soon....

I would think that the co-owner would need to sign the papers giving sole ownership to your sister. I've never seen AKC papers but I'm sure there is probably an area that would pertain to transfer of ownership.

ETA: Got this off the AKC website Change of ownership due to divorce Go down to point C.

The back of the AKC certificate has signature lines. It doesn't matter if they were married, living together or total strangers...........co-ownership is co-ownership and the owner can do nothing without the co-owner signing off on a breeding......sell....or other transfer.

HE needs to sign the back stating he is giving up co-ownership.
