new to Rotties, Quick Question about average size

I am new here and new to the breed, although this is the first time I have owned one I have loved them from since I can remember. I was just wondering about their size, I have been told by some that mine is so small, I love her no matter what I dont care if she doesnt grow another stitch, but I was just wondering when they are done growing I have a 7 month old female, last week she weighed 77lbs I was just wondering what to expect. Thanks for any help!

I'm not the biggest expert here, but seven months and 77 pounds doesn't sound overly small. My Missy is feminine looking, but still definitely a Rottie, and is at a good weight at 90 pounds as a full grown adult. My neighbor who has a very poor quality Rottie who is oversize (tall and narrow), perpetually underweight and soft-coated made the comment that "oh, you have a SMALL one" when she first saw Missy. I told her I thought she was just right....

Sounds right to me! Your pup seems small to ignorant people because most people have fat pets. ALso, she's still a pup! She's got lots of growing, and filling out to do over the next few years. Be patient!

You sound like me when I first came on the board. I LOVED the breed since I can remember. I even tried to search for another breed to have, but I couldn't bring myself to get anything else but!

When my rottie was a pup, ignorant people would ask, "Are you sure that's a rottie? Looks like a Doberman to me..."

my rottie is 10 months (this month) and weighs 74lbs, everyone says he is too skinny, too boney, too long...etc etc. The vet says he is just a gawky "teenager" and I agree with Groupieindenial, that most are used to overweight pets

Kyla is a year and half and she weighs in at a woping 70 pounds but she is perfect. She is starting to fill out right now as she was pretty scrawny when I got her but she looks good. Not fat, not skinny...just right...her tummy is nice and tight, legs are muscular, etc. She is a small girl but there is no doubt that she is a rotti through and through. I did have one lady who asked if she was a pittbull...duh! Just SLIGHTLY different! lol If you are worried ask your vet but I am sure your girl is just fine the way she is...too many people try to dish out "expert" opinion when it comes to dogs and yes many of them are used to seeing fat couch potato dogs which are not truly representing what a healthy dog should look like.

Yeah, my baby's small, too. But that's ok. She's just over four months and between 25 and 30 pounds (she gained a little weight within the last week, I just haven't weighed her yet).

I could not agree more about the fat pets part. Our other dog is a couple pounds overweight (we're working on it), and when I tell people that, they get surprised. Um, yeah, she's not a sausage, but she still should be a pound or two thinner. :eyeroll:

UGH! I already got that the other day. This guy says to me "is that a rotti/lab cross?" I said "uuuuuuuh NO he's purebred." He then says "well he's awfully small looking."

"Uuuuuuuuuuh that's because he's only 5 months old" You'd think that would've been enough for him...nope. He still looks puzzled and says "well he's not very stalky and he doesn't have a squarish head." lol!!!!

Just to prove this guys ignorance he then says "you're not going to crop his ears are ya?" LOL!!!! I just looked at him and said "well NO since you don't crop rotti's ears." and then walked on.

I just love how random people think they can make all sorts of comments about your animal to you.

For example, my lil Ember was out and about with me when she was almost three months old. This guy comes up and pets her and talks to her (so I can hear his wisdom) and comments on how her tail should have been cropped and her dew claws should have been cut off. Since we were leaving anyway, I didn't say anything, but that bugged me. Of course, people, as a general rule, bug the crap out of me.

i am laughing at all the responses i know she is not underweight because my vet said she looks great. I do have people ask me all the time "what is she?" sometimes i feel like saying a chihuahua. and then there are others who think she is soooo sweet and they ask what she is and back away when i tell them. thanks for all the great responses

Get used to it! Unfortunately a lot of people are morons and all of a sudden BECOME afraid once they realize it is a rotti they were petting, "Oh my god, I have just been petting a mean scarey child eating rottweiler!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!".

I am still trying to teach Kyla to faint as if she is afraid of them instead! but then again I am somewhat of a disturber!

I remember being asked, with both Annie and Missy over the years, "what kind of dog is that?" With all the bad press our Rotties have gotten over the years, I've been somewhat relieved when someone DOESN'T recognize the breed!

Personally, I think 77 lbs. is just about perfect for the average adult bitch in working condition. Most dogs are way too fat!
