Rottweiler Growth Hello to all. I have a question, I have a Male Rottweiler, Rock, will be 2 yrs in October. He is 80 lbs now, can anyone tell me when he will stop growing? Several breeders told me that he will grow until 3 yrs, thanks, Mike.

Depends a lot on your dog's lines. Have you talked to the breeder about this? I would say that 3 years for males might be a good average though in my opinion.

I have heard they will grow until 18 months or 1.5 years. This does not mean they can not fill out more or put on weight, but their body structure will be complete. 80 lbs sounds pretty low for 2 year old Rott. Does he eat enough? Is he small boned compared to other rotts you have met? As mentioned above, a lot will have to do with genetics.

Rock Rock is extremely muscular, not a big massive overweight dog, very compact. I prefer him like this, agile and muscular. If he grows that's fine, if he stays like this better. He eats about four cups of Iams, now maybe because it's getting a little colder he is eating 6 cups. I'm overseas and Iams is the best that I can find, if there are any suggestions of good food please let me know. Thanks for your replies, I was just wondering since several people who own Rottweilers told me that Rock was still growing, to tell you the truth I was scared since their dogs in my opinion are too large, bulky and sluggish looking (Neopolitan mastiff type). I have read the Rottweiler standard and so far (if Rock doesn't blow up in size) he fits right in. Let me know about food if you can, Mike.

I think he sounds like a good size. As far as food, Iams, is ok. It has alot of fillers like corn in it, but there are alot of worse foods and alot of better foods. Foods that have less fillers are better. I don't like to feed foods that have alot of corn, meat by-products, chemical preservatives which are iams, science diet, etc) I will suggest a few I think are better and you can look for them, but if you can't find them, Iams will have to do. Advance Balance diet Solid Gold Innova Royal Canin Size (natural blend) Canidae Just look at the ingrediants.

I live in UK (not sure where you are) but I recently came across Techni-Cal from out pet shop. I feed the puppy version as I have a 14wks old boy only. It works wonders compared to Pedigree Complete (I fed it based on recommendation of the breeder) or Purina O. N.E. Beautiful shiny coat, less poop and he stopped eating it as well (which may be a coincidence, however much appreciated). Hope it helps.

Innova has come out with their Large Breed Puppy food now. So I have Khori on that one. They are recommending that he stays on it til he is two years old. I have fed their food for years. My sheltie passed away when she was almost 17 years old. She didn't even get the grey in her face. When the vet found that she had crystals in her urine, I contacted them and she had me get a book that talked about it and so I put her on vitamin C, and kept her on the Innova and she didn't have anymore problems with it.

We love Nature's Variety. It has been great for their coats, and they love it.
