Airline recommendations??

Later this year I might be flying to the west coast from Ohio with one adult dog. What airlines would you recommend that do well with transporting dogs?

Thanks..

First find out which airlines have direct routes for your trip, because that will be what you have to choose from. Then we'll see who has what experiences with them.

There are quite a few airlines that won't transport dogs at all. Continental has climate controlled ground transport/handling facilities so they will fly year round without the temp. restrictions of other airlines.

I've never flown with a pet but here are a couple of links that might be helpful

The first is from the Early Show
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/...in702401.shtml

This link gives tips and information for flying with pets (3 pages)

The second is from the Humane Society
http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/ca..._policies.html

This link gives information from each airline on one page with the links to the airlines.

Good Luck.

Already checked that a couple days ago...have found ZERO direct flights so far. I figured my next bet would be a flight that has ONE short stopover but doesn't change planes.

I've used Delta, Alaska, & Lufthansa - all were just fine...I'm guessing out of those three, Delta will be your only option for this trip though. :)

I recently flew Frontier airlines w/ my dog... not sure they service Ohio??? They did a great job...

Years ago I flew Delta (w/ a connecting flight) and had no problems.

went to several travel sites...travelocity, etc..etc... and it gave me all flights for all carriers...I'll have to run it again to get the list of carriers, but I remember it was most of them.

FYI - depending on the size of the plane, it may or may not be able to accommendate a 500 series crate and/ or total poundage of the dog and crate in excess of 100lbs. If that's the case your dog may have to fly as cargo rather than checked baggage.

I have used Continental, Delta and Lufthansa. I am most impressed with Continental's pet program, but it is more pricey. If you and the dog are going to be on the same flight I don't I would be as concerned with which carrier to go with b/c you will be there to ask questions & remind the crew that you have an animal on board. I would chose the most direct route and the one with the shortest lay over (I'm sure you already knew that :-).
