| I'm getting Diesel a muzzle which I'm considering a nylon, but reading about them some say they can bite while wearing one? The one I am looking at the salesman says they're mainly used to prevent barking, which is the main reason why i want it, but if it doesn't allow them to bite, even better. Anyone know what the pros and cons are of this type of muzzle?

| If you get the kind that holds the mouth closed to the point that the dog cannot bark, it also will not be able to pant which is very dangerous. Muzzles are not the best choice to solve a barking problem. Is your concern barking or biting or both? If it primary for biting, get a basket muzzle which allows drinking and panting.

| No, I'd never use a closed muzzle...The guy selling them says he can paint and drink while wearing it, but its used for barking and he 'says' they cannot bite either. Which I'm not sure about. My concern is Diesel is fearful, and barks at ppl while we're out in public, even though I never leave him unattended, I still want something for protection.

| A quick review and I see that the dog is indeed aggressive and a basket muzzle was recommended more than 8 months ago. I don't know why you wouldn't just get the kind recommended.

| Since the basket muzzle would most likely be used for outdoors while you are among people, you most likely not need it when he eats. I believe he would be able to drink water with the basket type muzzle. I'm not certain, but what I've seen they are able to drink water. It would allow free movement of his mouth and pant if needed while preventing him from biting. Barking at people is something that would be corrected through obedience and other socialization methods. |

| You cannot stop/control bakring with a muzzle of any kind. What 'salesman' otld you that?? Someone from the pet supply store?? Puhleeze... TRAINING will help control/correct barking along with many other undesirable urges a dog may have. If you don't feel your dog is safe in public, don't bring him there. |

| I have used the basket muzzle while working with Sarge. I feel those are more humane then the nylon ones. And if your dog is anything like mine those nylon ones will be ripped off. Of course do not leave it on for a long time. I just use it when I am working on getting him to not be so nervous around ppl. Then I am more relaxed and he is more relaxed.
