First Rottie

We are just waiting for our first rottweiler, and first family dog. We did alot of research to find the best breed for us and we've fallen in love with rotts. The New Monks of Skete Book (recommended by a member) says that new pups should sleep in the bedroom without a crate, with owner at first. How long should this go on until pup can stay in the crate all night? Also pups do not normally soil their bedding. Will we need to get up in the middle of the night to let her out?If so how long will this phase last?

Re: First Rottie

Yes you will have to get up in the middle of the night. Depending on how old she/he is for each month add an hour. That is how long she/h would hold it. So one month could hold it 2 hours 2 months 3 hours.

Welcome to parenthood when you get her/him. And make sure you get her/him into training and socialize socialize and socialize.

Re: First Rottie

Oh yes indeed you will get up during the night, our first week was the most sleepless night for us in our whole lives (no children ) and for us this phase lasted roughly 3 weeks give or take before she was sleeping the full night but more and more after the first week she would sleep just a bit longer also with us we already had her in her crate not outside of it we just put the crate next to the bed so we could hear her quickly. Good Luck and they are beautiful animals and great companions.
