Any Help Appreciated

I posted the following on the forum last night under the Rottweiler Rescue discussion thread, and I thought maybe I should have listed it under General Info. instead. Thanks, Ranismom, for your info. of the address and phone number for the NC Rottweiler Rescue, and I've tried calling them, but it just rings and rings about 10 to 15 times and then just disconnects. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know, as our situation has become even more urgent this morning. My father-in-law is dying, and we're going to have to fly out anytime now for his funeral and probably be gone close to a week. There won't be anyone here to feed this wonderful dog, and it breaks my heart to think of having to take her to the Animal Shelter, but I really don't know what else to do, and I'm running out of time to find help with her. Please somebody help me figure out what to do with her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote a couple of weeks ago about a rottweiler that started hanging around our house, and I really appreciate all the helpful suggestions I received from everybody. I got her to the vet and unfortunately she doesn't have a microchip. I tried to contact one of the rescue organizations that a few of you listed, but all I could find in the way of contact info. on their website was an email address. I wrote to them last week and I still haven't heard anything back from anyone. I read that they're all volunteers and very busy and that it would probably take a while to hear from them, but does anybody have a phone number for them? At the time I first wrote, there was no big hurry to try to find a home for her, but now things have become a little more urgent, and we're going to have to find a home for her probably within the next week or so. We don't have any other relatives around here that can take her in, even temporarily, and my only other alternative is to take her to the Animal Shelter, and I REALLY don't want to do that, but I'm running out of ideas for what to do. Any help you can give me will be gratefully appreciated.

Since you cannot keep her...you may have to take her to a shelter.
See if you can find a "no kill" shelter where she will have more chances of being adopted out.
Also leave them your name and number and let them know that you want to be notified if she is going to be euthanized for lack of space or her time is up.

Most animal control or city run shelters are kill shelters, you will have more luck with a SPCA, run with donated money and volunteers. The shelter may be able to get in touch with a Rottweiler Rescue or an All Breed Rescue.

Re: Any Help Appreciated

So very sorry to hear about your father-in-law and very kind of you to be caring for this dog.

I know this will cost you money but may be an option if you do not hear from any of the organizations you have tried to contact.....how about a pet sitter until your return home from your difficult family situation.

Re: Any Help Appreciated

I would like to add that the shelters are where most people go to look when they have lost a dog. It is also where many go to find a pet! The assumption that they are evil places should not be taken as carved in stone. Our shelter is quite honest when they say if it is a good natured dog, they are happy to have it and will work hard to find it a home. Many more people go to a shelter than are looking in your backyard or even going to rescue groups. They often do not have a breed in mind, but go looking and become taken by a dog in need of a home.

Re: Any Help Appreciated

Thanks for the help, bej. Where is your friend located? I tried leaving messages and emailing a couple of the different organizations that were on the list you provided that are in this area, but I haven't heard back from any of them yet. I'm hopeful that somebody will be able to find a home for her around here somewhere, but if that doesn't happen soon, I may take your friend up on her offer.
