Re: USDA License and Inspected It means they are a commercial puppy mill where the dogs are kept just like chickens and then sold to brokers. It means you can almost double guarantee both physical and mental health problems.

Re: USDA License and Inspected Only "kennels" that broker commercially (usually to pet shops) fall under the USDA licensing.

....this means it is a puppy mill...nothing more nothing less.Only commercial breeders need to be USDA Licenced , these means the person is breeding commercialy, making their living off of selling dogs. Puppy farmers. Gina

Re: USDA License and Inspected My friend knows a women who is a puppy miller ("She must have over 200 dogs") She was USDA inspected just a couple of weeks ago becuase a man filed a complaint with them after his pup died. My friend has known this women her whole life (grew up with the ladies 2 daughters) and has been helping with the "chores" (schleping poo from the kennels) since the two daughters got pregnent (one baby here the other due in July, bed rest pregnancy). My friend mentioned she haden't gotten any sleep on her two days off because the USDA had called to say they were coming out, she had to go down and clean the kennels out "real good" to make sure they would pass. They did, with flying colors. I guess they won't have to schlep poo and clean again till the USDA gives them a call reguarding another inspection. I really need out of this disgusting animal hating/abusing state.

| Re: USDA License and Inspected Who has to be USDA licenced? -Anyone who owns more than three or more intact bitches and sells wholesale (to brokers/petstores instead of the actualy puppy owner). That standards of care that millers are required to abide by are absolutely disgracefull. Minimal space allowances-A "primary" enclosure only has to be 6 inches taller than the top of the dogs head, and 6 inches longer than from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. In this size of enclosure exercise must be provided, however, if the enclosure is double sized, the dog never has to be removed from the cage. All surfaces being moisture proof and bleachable-That means that these dogs will NEVER see the inside of a house. Afterall, houses are full of things that absorb moister, like blankets, carpets, couches and the like. This is also where the "wire" comes in. Stacked cages will have wire on the bottom for a floor. That way when the dogs poop or pee no one has to take them outside. It just has to fall through the bottom to be cleaned "later". The wire is often 12-gauge with 1/2" holes. This is why petstore puppies are so hard to crate train. They lost any instinct of keeping their area clean by being raised like this. So lets just remember what USDA stands for. United States Department of Agriculture. Agriculture. That means that these animals are LIVESTOCK not pets, and their owners don't care about them. Only the money they make off of them. Just like cattle. You don't even want to know about the auctions.

Re: USDA License and Inspected Beledi, I'm really surprised that your vet that you trust and work for did not caution you about the source of this puppy. Since he did not, I would suggest that you reexamine the trust factor. Information about puppy mills is not a secret or hard to come by. It is also highly likely that the pup is not even purebred. At least you have not handed over money yet, so keep your credit card/money in your wallet, relax and do some research and take your time.
