rottweiler size

Just a quick question, My rottweiler is 1 year and 2 months old she is 24 inches tall but only 65 pounds, is she too small? or will she continue to grow? her girth is what gets me thinking, other rottweilers younger then her are just as big and people say "oh my she is so little" but she is a pure bread dog, can someone help. joe bremer

Re: rottweiler size

Well, she is certainly tall enough, but I would agree that it sounds as if she might be a bit lacking in substance. Purebred in itself does not guarantee breed type. You would need to know the structure and substance of her family.

Re: rottweiler size

Hi
please dont get to bogged down in the development of a pup, unless theres obvious signs of some thing wrong, remember all pups grow at different rates, and trying to boost the growth rate can spell disaster health wise, and lead to all sorts of probs in the future, good luck

Re: rottweiler size

My Daisy was only about 70 lbs at one year. She is now 4 1/2 years old and is 27" and 90 lbs. with a deep chest and tiny waistline. She grew until she was almost 3 yrs old.

Re: rottweiler size

Like livertw says, don't worry, your girl is still growning. Rotties continue to fill out until they are at least three. Keep her lean, keep her active and watch her change. Both my current and former Rotties came to me when they were about 1 - 1 1/2 years old. Tall, skinny as rats with big feet and big heads. By the time they hit three they were solid, powerful dogs, still lean but about 20 lbs heavier than they had been as adolescents.

Re: rottweiler size

A Rottweiler that is 6 months and 90 pounds? You better slow him down. That seems like alot of weight for a youngin'.

Re: rottweiler size

Seems like it however he is very fit and trim all vets are impressed with him. He has always grown very proportional has never gotten lanky. And for all concerned he has no suppliments in his diet except his daily nuvet vitamin and has allways been on an adult maintinence food diet ( started by the breeder) Dad was around 130 lbs.

Re: rottweiler size

Your girl sounds like she is a little on the thin side. Without actually seeing her tho it is kinda hard to judge

My girl Akasha turned 2 in October. She is 24" and as of yesterday she weighs 88 pounds. If I remember correctly, at a year old she was 24" and weighed around 70 - 75 pounds. She was tall and very lean. It is just recently that she has really started to fill out.

Her brother Keil is 27" and as of yesterday weighs 116 pounds. I think he weighed around 105 at a year old, but I would have to check to make sure.
He has started to fill out a little bit, but is still very lean. The vet yesterday said they are both at very good weights and I happen to agree with her. I really like them right where they are right now.
