Talking Working Dog Vests

Hi all,

I just got the two Rescue Dog vests for Parker (one mesh, one cooler) for our SAR work. Neither fit properly.

They sit too high over his whithers and aren't accomodating enough for his pronounced chest. They also have a strap that would accomodate a more tucked up breed, but does nothing for our deeper dogs. It also doesn't accomodate the width across his shoulders.

I know they're typically for a Shepherd or a Malinois, maybe a Dobe - but they do nothing for Parker. The straps behind his elbows will cut into him because he's got a very wide and pronounced chest.

So - it either means ordering another and taking another chance on another style, or having one custom made. Does anyone have any recommendations / suggestions / referrals?

It's frustrating because now I'm going to lose the $21.00 customs fee and shipping. These two came up from San Diego. Nevermind the time I've lost. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Working Dog Vests

Any way you can add length to the straps? Ask someone who sews. Usually these straps are a woven solid color, easily matched. Either new or length to the old straps can be done at mimimal cost.

You know - I could. But considering these 2 vests have cost me over $100.00, I don't want to have to pull them apart as well. For that price, they should fit! I'm thinking I'm going to have to get them custom made.

Re: Working Dog Vests

I bought a service dog vest for Darla through wolfpacks.com

It was a reallyneat item being cordura and had a flat zippered pocket on each side. It was not so much a vest as a saddle thingy. one strap across the chest and one underneath.

They come in lots of colors and SAR patches were available

I got Darlas so that when we backpacked with her parents she could wear something to hold her contact infocard and her heart patient card.

There's a photo of the three of them together on the funpage of my website

Re: Working Dog Vests

I ordered one through wolfpaks as well, for my Shepherd (therapy dog). Fits my male Rottie, too. It's a great little vest.

I was thinking of getting him one without all the patches and embroidery I had done on the therapy vest for him, just because it has the reflective strip. Great for night walks.
