| Doggie Door Hey. OK I've done my research and searched the forums for information on the brand of doggie door I should get. I've found a guy here who will take whatever door I get (I need a new back door anyway) and will install the doggie door in the new door, but he said to be sure and get a quality one so we don't have to replace any time soon. Anybody have good suggestions for brands? Elbee and Bear are each about 100 pounds, so I know I can get the size I want. I'm willing to pay whatever to get the quality I need. AND any other suggestions about what kind of door to get, I mean the TOP part of the door . . . window, doublepane with mini-blinds inside, just plain ole door?

| Re: Doggie Door If you don't have a window beside the door, then I would suggest getting a door with an upper window so you can look out and see what the little buggers are up to. |

| Re: Doggie Door Well I have a window beside the door; unfortunately, it's been replaced 3 times since I moved into this house. It's ceiling to floor, so when they go "butt-scootin'" through the living room, they knock against it and it just stays cracked. (I've taped to keep it from shattering.) HA! Just another reason I need that doggie door. I found one manufacturer,"Moore Pet Supplies" that looks like they have a pretty quality door. The only other one I've found is "Staywell" but they are in Australia, so there could be an issue with any potential warranty problems. Anyway, anybody have a thought?

| Re: Doggie Door We are putting in a dog door in our home in Tennessee. I have been doing some research myself. One issue I did have is that where we are building is quite rural.... I did not want skunks and other unwanted wildlife enjoying the hospitality of my home I am researching a door that is electronic.....it automatically locks upon closing and only opens to the animal with the electronic code which is attached to their collars.http://www.moorepet.com/moorepet/ind...OVMTC=standard I was also slightly concerned that any dog door that would allow a rott to enter would also be large enough for a human the electronic option would solve that one.

| Re: Doggie Door One of the most important features is how secure the opening is when the panel is in place. Then you just have to remember to put the panel in when you are taking all dogs with you (and take it out again when you return home) |

The stuff is bullet proof, litterally!!

| Re: Doggie Door Well, I ordered the Hale Security door with double flaps, and it has a Lexan insert lock. The sales guy said the same thing, that is "bulletproof." That's really a great idea to get that glass panel replaced with the same, I never thought about that. So I'm having it installed in a couple of weeks (have to buy a new door, as mine is glass all the way down). Now I just have to make sure Elbee understands that he has to SLOW DOWN before he runs through that sucker!

| Re: Doggie Door I have two Hales. My only complaint is that the material they use for the flaps does not last as long as you'd think it should for the price. |
