Sleeping on the bed...

Ok my husband thought it would be so cute to have Paradise sleep in the bed with us so we can all pack, well she is getting too big and hogs the whole bed (unlike when she sleeps on the floor rolled into a ball) I'm top dog in the pack and I don't want her to have the impression she is going to move to that spot!

How can I keep her off the bed and convince my hubby the floor is where she belongs

thanks

This thread has some good points as to why it is not a good idea to let your dog sleep on your bed:

Re: Sleeping on the bed...

You can start with saying "no bed", mean it, and show Paradise her own bed on the floor. You have to do this all of the time and not let her up there when you feel like it, feel sorry for her because she'll give you the "sad" eyes. This also includes hubby's actions. He shouldn't be letting her up there while you're not around, either. So, you're going to have to make your bed off limits all of the time, and enforce it all of the time. BTW, nice therapeutic beds can be bought cheap at Costo's and Sam's Clubs.

Re: Sleeping on the bed...

Talking from experience if you say no bed ever and hubby says bed is ok your dog is going to get on the bed. What I did is allowed it but within reason. She has a very nice bed of her own that sits up as high and next to ours and I taught her....."YOUR BED" and of course she knew what off meant.

Then I just told her off or her bed when I wanted her off. I taught Your bed just by showing it to her and making a huge party of YOUR BED.......Stuffed Kongs, treats or whatever.

Because she had been allowed on the bed for a while I felt very unfair correcting her for being on the bed all of a sudden, plus I knew the better half of me(hubby) was allowing it so thought it to be unfair to her to get in trouble over it.

I still to this day give her the off and your bed command several times a day to make sure she continues to obey....... If she hesitates too much, she loses any bed privileges for weeks to come. I call it boot camp refresher time.......

By the way she prefers her bed! She seldom gets on ours unless called up.......

Re: Sleeping on the bed...

It's very simple, just tell her "OFF!" and make her leave. She'll get the idea, and after the first few times...won't even be offended.

Our girls are allowed on couches as long as there is no company. They understand fully what "off" means. Your girl will too. If she has a bed of her own you could try taking her to it, but she'll likely figure it out anyway.

Re: Sleeping on the bed...

We just went through this about a month ago with our 2 pups. Basically we just kept telling them "no" and "off". after 2-3 nights, they gave up trying and now sleep on the floor.

And can you believe, they still love us just the same!!!!!

Re: Sleeping on the bed...

Yes we let our new BIG man ( 18mth old) on the bed for the first few nights, he was great layed down my end of the bed I am five foot nothing by the way, didnt move fart or stretch out... but then when it came to telling him to "get off" he growled!! That was it he was crated there after, he sooked for the first night... but now as soon as we let him inside he runs straight into it. Even though thats not where i want him to go as soon as i let him in LOL!! Its only where i want him to sleep!!
