| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott I too think her lethargy is stemming from the anesthesia. You will find out in a day or two if she bounces back once getting some rest to sleep it off. She'll be good as new in no time. As for the pain meds the vet gave you, I would exercise caution in giving them if it is Rimadyl by any chance? Maureen

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott My dog was loopy from the anesthesia until the next morning. She didn't receive any pain meds following her spay. Not masking pain helped her limit her own activity until she was truly ready for it, and that only took a few days. The bitenot collars work very well and are much less depressing for the dogs. |

She'll be good as new in no time. As for the pain meds the vet gave you, I would exercise caution in giving them if it is Rimadyl by any chance? Maureen It is RIMADYL. 75 mg give 2 tabs every 24 hours. why? Is there something I can give her Instead? BostonRott Call your vet in the a.m. and ask them if they have the Bitenot collars. It's used instead of the big cone, but still keeps the dog away from the sutures, etc. It's similar to the hard plastic collars that people with neck injuries wear and the dogs seem to tolerate them well I haven't heard of these but will call some Vets tomarrow and try a track one down. Dan already called our Vet about an alternative. The cone is so big that she about tripped on it coming in the house. They said they had nothing else and I could take it off her if I stayed right with her. Bastianboy Poor thing. She'll pop back quickly I'm sure. I would think that some of her pathetic-ness (is that a word?) is from the anesthesia still. It can leave dogs loopy for a whole day or two. Just love her and she'll be fine She's actually been a couch potato since I picked her up from the kennel (not normally like her). HAHA I think alot of that is this isn't her house and she doesn't understand where Nick is. |

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott Many people try to stay away from pain meds as mentioned, it masks the pain. She'll do a better job of self-limiting if she feels a bit sore. ![]() As to Rimadyl, it's a rather controversial drug, many deaths due to liver problems and acute liver failure. I personally would never use it on any of my dogs, but that's just me.

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott [quote=RottieMom51503] It is RIMADYL. 75 mg give 2 tabs every 24 hours. why? Is there something I can give her Instead?[quote] As Gretchen stated, a very controversial drug. High incidence of death in rottweilers after use. I also would not use the drug & prefer to go a more homeopathic & herbal route for relieving pain in my dogs. Maureen

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott I will throw those pills away. The orginal Doctor that usually works there needs to monitor what is going on there a little bit better. This is the vet Hospital that did Daphne's surgery and everything was completely different. The receptionist told me when I picked her up "that it was a shame that we choose to have her spayed because she has a good temperment and is so well mannered, She would of been an excellent mother". I think I'm about ready to change Vets again, if I do it will be Daphne's 4th Vet and she is only 20 months. |

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott Don't worry about the number of vet changes, just find one you're comfortable with. ![]() You might want to see if anyone near you is a reproduction specialist. These people tend to have their heads screwed on straight, know the "ethics" of breeding, understand about OFA'ing pet dogs (as opposed to breeding stock), are familiar with raw diets, alternative treatments, etc. I wouldn't trade the docs at the practice that we go to for anything in the world, they are worth their weight in platinum!!!

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott In my neck of the woods, we don't have reproduction specialists. But in doing a TON of research originally for my own health problems, I was able to educate myself on the use of alternative remedies for my pets. My vet happens to be a friend, so I work in conjunction with what he knows & what I know. :-) Maureen

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott Gretchen, I'm not sure where you are located but, I'm in Bradford,Ohio. Next time you are to the Vet could you ask him if he knows of any in Ohio? or close to the 45308 zip code? |

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott I'd be willing to bet that you could get people here to offer some good recommendations. I'd start a new thread entitled "Looking for a good vet in Ohio" or something similar. I live in Massachusetts, doubt my clinic has many suggestions re: practice in Ohio. But I know there are plenty of Buckeyes on here, bet you'll find some good info!

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott I use to manage vet hospitals. So I have a very specific criteria of what I feel makes a good one. For me, it's not just the vet but the staff, the invoicing, the technicians, their waiting room, their policies and much, much more. Parker had 3 different vets by the time he was 18 months. The one I go to now is about 15 minutes away from my Parents place (1 1/2 hours from my own home). They are friendly, open, up to date and appreciate my dog. The receptionists don't hide behind the counter because he's a Rottweiler, they come OUT because he's a Rottweiler. I get return phone calls, follow up calls, they answer my questions, do things outside of their normal practice because I'm a good owner (what I use to call an "A" client). You MUST be comfortable with your veterinarian, their clinic and their staff. You are trusting them with the health of your dog. They act on behalf of your dog because your dog can't speak for themselves. If you don't feel comfortable asking your vet questions - keep looking. Ask around - people are more than happy to recommend their vet if they're happy or to tell you to steer clear if they're unhappy. The right vet for you and your dog is out there - you just have to find them.

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott Gretchen and Moondog, Thanks for the suggestion on the Bitenot Collar. I bought one this morning for her and she has done alot better with it. She is able to sleep more comfortable and move about. I haven't given her anything for Pain but she doesn't seem to be in much pain. I gave her a few milkbones and she has had fun trying to bury them in diffrent spots in the kitchen. |

| Re: Questions possibly pregnant Rott Yes I had a splinter in my finger this morning and had Dan get it out. I was crying like a baby while she sat next to me and looked at me like "It will be okay ". |
