Talking Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

Hi all,

There are no by law officers here.

How many dogs do you own and are they all properly, currently licensed within your city / town?

Why or why not?

For the record: Parker is licensed. Initially, the kick in the pants was because I couldn't get a certificate for his CCGC without it! But I've kept it up to date since.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

I have one dog and he is licensed.

Why: Because it is the responsible and right thing to do.

My husband is a police officer and we are good friends with the animal control officer, so both of my dogs are licensed

Both of my dogs are licensed with the city. Part of my rationale for following the law is that if a breed ban should ever pass, hopefully pre-existing licensed pets will be grand-fathered in.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

Both mine are unlicensed as I've not been able to remember to fill out the paperwork, drive to the local animal shelter where they're processed and do so during work hours, M-F only. THey make it very difficult to say the least. The location is quite far from me too. I do have both mine microchipped and they wear numerous tags to identify them. Thankfully they're both heavily managed during the day and night. Not alone outside where they can't be seen and in a very secure fenced yard. Or on leashes with myself or husband.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

We have two (2) dogs and yes both are licensed. Responsible and it's a law in our area. We must produce our dogs license (tag) when asked.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

IN CA (before we moved) 2 out of 3 were licensed (I never licensed Maddie b/c she was intact and didn't care to pay $100 per year for my right to keep her intact!)

IN Colorado (None of the 4 are licensed)... still need rabies on 2 before we can license them.

I personally don't care to have it on record the kind of dog I own (due to potential BSL)...

Or... they will know where the rottweilers are and keep an eye on you b/c of it... That is my worry!

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

NH State law all dogs over 3 months of age licensed and rabies vax'd

I get a group license for $20, but each dog gets it's own license paper

Currently 11 dogs total. We've had a high of 18 and a low of 7 in the last 10 years. (almost everyone is geriatric or at least elderly)

Town clerk knows who I am and when licenses are due to expire I call her and tell her who is still with us and who has passed or left so when I go I just have to provide current rabies vax on the expired ones and pay.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

Bella is our only dog and she is licensed as a Rottweiler mix. Why? Because we adopted her from the city shelter a few years ago and that's what they deemed her to be. I'm not so concerned about breed bans here, it doesn't seem to be as vogue as I read about it being in other places.

Besides, here it's the law to license your pets and the licensing fees probably do some good in helping fund the animal control operations for the county. They give discounts for altered animals

Shelters frequently claim a rottweiler mix is part lab to make it more adoptable and that's how I turned into a Rott'n'lab Mom.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

Always licensed my dog. Even though I live rural, I still enjoyed taking him the the large state park 2 miles from my house. Well maintained roads in the winter! We'd run a few miles 3-4 times a week and he got meet other joggers and their dogs. Huge clean lake to swim in too.

Couldn't have done any of this with an unlicensed dog.

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

I have to admit that none of ours are licenced with the city. We do have all shots up to date, and I keep all the records, if anyone asks.

Money is really tight for us, and I would rather spend the cash on taking them to training or such. I have donated to the shelters in other ways, so I am doing what I can to help. (It helps me sleep at night )

Re: Dog Licenses: Unofficial Poll

All my dogs past & present (I currently own 2) have been licensed because it's the law. There are stiff fines for unlicensed dogs. Also most towns around here do a dog census periodically - they actually have people who go from house to house to count the dogs. If you aren't home or if you don't come to the door, they will ask your neighbors about your dog(s). The license fee is cheap - $7 per year for spayed/neutered dogs and the fee is waived for therapy dogs.
