Invisible boot for a dog's paws

Have any of you used this product? It's a pasty looking product thats suppose to give protection against salt, ice and snow, and is lickable. I bought it yesterday, and put it on Vegas's paws, as well as vaseline in between his toes, and did our walk. When we came in, I wipe down his paws with a wet towel. He didin't cry and bite at his paws during or after the walk, which is a good sign.

Although he is still biting at his back paws, but I'm not sure if its the salt, growing pains, cramps or something else going on there. He did this late last night, long after the walk, and again this morning.

I'm not sure I'm convinced this works, although I've only found good information but any information is hard to find.
