Is it true that Rottweilers are half their adult weight @ 4 mths?

That rotties are about half their adult weight at 4 months old? My rottie was 31 lbs at 4 months so that would put her at 62ish full grown. The breeder expects her to be about 80. What have you found tpo be true?

Never heard that one and no I have never found that to be true at all.

Since different lines mature at different rates; adult weight is reached at some point between 18 months and 3 years. A few lines not til 4 years!

Not true. A good rule of thumb is a gain of about ten lbs a month for the first 7 or 8 months then they slow down. Look at the parents, that will help determine what your dog will weigh when full grown.

My vet told me that Clifford's 4 month weight would be about half of his 1yr weight but that he would continue growing until about 18mos.

Not sure if this is true or not, but my vet said that at 12 weeks they would multiply Mia's weight by 4 to get her approximate "full-grown" weight. she said this is pretty accurate.. but I guess I really won't know until shes grown

My vet told me with most breeds you can do that, but specifically not with rotts, and even more so with males, because they continue to mature and grow longer than other breeds.

If I did that with Zeus, his "full grown" weight will be 128lbs. He is 13 months and a little over 100lbs.

Not true in my experience. I don't have an actual weight for Sable at 4 months. But I know she was 60.4# at 5 months. She's a healthy 90 lbs at 24"...just right. She added an inch and 8 lbs between age 2 and 3...so she didn't "stop" at 18 months, as I read, somewhere.

And Rave was 56, so she'd be 112? I sure hope not. I expect Rave to be 24-25" and about 92-96, juat based on comparison between the girls as they grew/are growing.

Seriously, formula's asside. You have what their genes intend them to be. Slow maturing, fast growth, the whole wad. Best is to look at the parents if they are available to you. Then figure in a sex. Females would be smaller, etc.

Tank's Grandma may have hit the nail on the head...not with Rotties, because they continue to grow longer.

Phew!!! Been a long while since I posted in this forum. Brutus is 9 mos. old and weighs about 80 pounds give or take. His father was a beastly 135 pounds and the dame at about 95 to 100.

He came to me with the name and I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me. My daughter (6yrs old) calls him Clifford "The big black dog".

Re: Is it true that Rottweilers are half their adult weight @ 4 mths?

I have never know this to be true.Dogs that look the same as puppys can look really different as Adults. They do noy all grow the same.
My Elwood weights in at 13 lbs and he is only 6 weeks old(he was a single ton)he would be huge when he was all grown up.He has started to slow down, but is the same weight as a friends 8 week old puppy.
