Good to know! Thanks everyone.

Last night my DH was playing Tug with the dog and I said he will leave it if you tell him right? He said sure, then said "LEAVE IT!" in a very forcful voice, Doc let go immediatly and stood there with his tail wagging until he was told "OK" and grabbed it again. I think Leave it is our best command. It works on other dogs, toys, treats, rabbits, and even chickens!

Re: Playing Tug?

Tug is a a favorite game for my girls, amoung many others. They know "drop it" from playing fetch. As it happens, I play tug if I feel like it. It doesn't matter to me if it's dog initiated, as we have no issues of them being demanding.

And OH! The games of tug they play together! They're so good. Just plain clean fun. Then, they also have their own version of soccer which is very interesting.

Re: Playing Tug?

We've been playing tug since my girl was a pup. We played a gentler version when she was a young one, and graduated to a rowdier version as she matured. Teaching the "out" (or "aus") from the start
was the key to successful interaction. No matter how wound up she is, one
"out" command and she releases!
A day without tug here is like a day without sunshine!
Best wishes -
kathy
