Re: Puppy Question?

Suffice it to say there are better and more productive ways to work with a dog, establish bonding, and teach place and show leadership.

I'm thinking it's a new fangled term and a newer 'version' of the outdated and dangerous ALPHA ROLL - just alot more cuddly and fluffy...like a bunny...still, not a move I'll try on any dog with any type of aggression or fear biting/anxiety issue - and I'm not one to react to fear either.

I've never shaved the whiskers of my Rottweilers for conformation. It was my understanding the Rottweilers were supposed to be shown as they are. And that's the way I do it. I don't know about Dobermans or Shelties, but I was told Rotties were a no trimming breed.

I understand that you want to show affection and bond with your dog. Myself, I tend to find alternative means to accomplish this. You can bond by moments spent by the lake on a beautiful fall day on your walk. I find training to be a farily productive means. I would include grooming, including them on family activities, biking, swimming, boating, a play date, or attending another dogs agility meet amoung other means of accomplishing the same goal.

Re: Puppy Question?

Although the standard does allow whisker trimming (the only trimming allowed) I don't know anyone that does this anymore. We all pretty much quit in the late 70's early 80's when it was realized that those whiskers serve a purpose, their presence or lack of does not change the appearance of the headpiece one whit.

Showing preparation should be a different thread but the necessity of trimming whiskers should not go unchallenged.
