Talking Rottie-Proof Toy???

My 13-month old pups just LOVE to play tug with each other. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find something suitable that they don't destroy in 15 minutes or less! They've been known to steal towels or my jeans, which of course, I cannot allow. Anyone know of a safe and Rottie-resistant tug toy I can get?

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

Ropes are great, but eventually they will get through it. AND it should be supervised, in case they get it caught on a limb or something. I bought a jolly ball, and the handle is already partially chewed off. I thought those things were suppose to be indestructable? I don't think there is such a thing is rotty-resistant.

Yes, they are always supervised. That's how I know they last less than 15 minutes!

Are you saying that some sort of regular rope rather than a rope-type tug toy would work better? If so, what type of rope should I buy? I guess probaby just the fattest, strongest natural fiber rope I can find, huh?

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

I have a rubbery tug that the dogs have yet to chew through. I think it just squishes between their teeth instead I guess. I had the same problem with the jolly ball. That is when I realized, after some research, that the jolly ball with the handle in not destructable, is only supposed to be used for carrying. There is a jolly ball that is indestructable, but it is made of hard plastic that is big enough for the dogs not to even be able to get their mouths around.

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

I bought a braided fleece tug for Sajan over 2 years ago at a show. The lady swore it would hold up to a serious game of tug. It has. The fabric is now rotting some and I just bought the fleece to make a new one. Go to Wal-mart and buy some fleece. Cut into 3 strips however long you want the tug and tie a knot on one end thenb braid it and tie the other end in a knot. Sajan is a serious tug of war player and loves to be swung off the ground and this tug has withstood over 2 years of that.

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

You can also purchase the tire tug toy. They come in various sizes and tend to last a bit longer than the usual tug toys. You can find this any place dog items are sold.

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

My two play tug with a large holee roller ball. The ball is almost two years old and still intact! It's the only thing that has stood up to a game of tug between the two of them.

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

We also have the rope tug-toy & also a rubber one as well. Both are put up & only used when we interact with Julius, either for a reward during training or for fun. Or he would sit down on the ground & start chewing...

I've been thinking about getting him one of these:

but I'm not sure how well it would hold up.

Looks like the same material as one I got for my two but it was shaped in a kind of figure-8. Lasted 5 minutes before it broke.

We have the same one for our guys to play with, and it has lasted quite well. They make different sizes, and ours has 3 rings. You just have to watch out when one lets go and the other starts doing the death shake, stuff will get broken and legs will get bruised.

LMAO!! Thats a great description of that!! My pup gets really into that, thats why it's thick tug ropes for him. I had one that had a rubber ball on it. BAD BAD BAD when he does the "death shake". Watch out!! THat one is put away most of the time, otherwise I'll lose an eye!

Re: Rottie-Proof Toy???

There are two toys that Lothar can have now- he is in to total destruction and these are the only toys that have survived. He plays tug with both of these toys with Rotties on the other end and they haven't even made a dent in the Rhino bone. The Hurley you can see some teeth marks, but none of it is missing.

The Hurley -- http://www.sitstay.com/store/toys/toysa.shtml#TYWP01
Is it different you ask? You bet it is! The Hurley is made of state of the art "dog" material, Zogoflex, so strong and flexible it will challenge even the most aggressive breeds. The manufacturer is so sure of its durability they guarantee it against dog destruction. It Bends. It Bounces. It Flies. It Floats. And best of all, it Lasts!

Nylabone Super Tuff Rhino Dinosaur Bone Super -- http://pets1st.ca/pets1st.asp?Prodid=795
Rhino Super tuff bone is a therapeutic dental device made from super strong natural rubber which resists punctures and wear and tear. The rhino bone cleans teeth and exercises the jaw very effectively. Pit Bull tested.
