Another weight topic..

My lil girl Athena is 9 weeks old, and weighs 6.8lbs, the vet says her weight is okay..but she seems small for her age..atleast compared to my males weight at that age. I thought maybe she was the "runt" of the litter, but Im not really sure on that.

Thanks

Did you ask the breeder if she was the runt? What did she say?

Re: Another weight topic..

Well thats the problem...I got her from a breeder, but athena wasnt out of her litter, and she had got her from her rotties vet(a litter had been dumped there) I didnt think to ask then to be honest. would her weight be "runt size"? If that makes any sense..lol

Re: Another weight topic..

If she is happy and healthy and eating well, and not skinny, I would not worry about her weight.

Re: Another weight topic..

She may be small but as long as she has a sound heart and is healthy she should grow up to be within the low end of the standard

My eldest girl (from my first litter) was 7lbs at 8 weeks and as an adult is 22 1/2" at the shoulder and 75lbs. She had a 6lb sister and she grew to be 23 1/2" and 85lbs. The key is that they were healthy and had sound hearts and good genetics

There is nothing wrong with small Rotts, even undersized. She's your pet and that's what counts right?

Small things come in good packages! even with Rottweilers!

I would not worry too much, as long as your Pup gets a good diet & excersize, it should all work out.

My 58 lbs sweetie ( I put 2 lbs on her for winter) can really move & jump! I wouldn't trade her!

Well said, Diane! Our boy Stevie is a good example of a healthy pocket Rottweiler. He is about 21 in at the shoulder and MAYBE 80lbs. He is TINY for a male but he is healthy and happy and has nice sound joints and is close to 9 years old. If you are showing of course you worry about size, if they are within the standard or not, but if they are just your companion, someone to love, who cares if they are on the small side?

Re: Another weight topic..

Well if the litter was "dumped" at the vets, couldn't they be wrong about the exact age? Was there a note with the litter giving a date of birth or something?

While 6.8 lbs at 9 weeks may sound a bit small, it isn't small by all that much. As was said, there's nothing wrong with small Rotties, even undersized. You'll get all the love you can stand and then some.

Enjoy Athena! She's bound to be just wonderful.
