? about Height etc..

Zeus is 19" and he turned 5 months old on Oct. 6th. I need to take him and have here weighed again soon, b/c right now i could only take a guess (maybe around 48-50lbs), b/c he feels so much heavier. Is 19" about a good height for a male rottie? I also wanted to know about when he will stop growing, like should I expect him to get taller, and finish "filling out", and Ive read up on rottie's having a growth spurt..? About when does this take place? Thanks

Re: ? about Height etc..

Happy is 5 months, 53lbs and 21" ..and per the vet right on target so I would guess your boy is as well.

He probably won't fill out until after he's a year old. Height wise, he's still got about 6 months.

I don't know about growth spurts, my puppy has been consistantly growing since we adopted him at 3 months old.

Re: ? about Height etc..

Dogs at this stage vary to a great extent, they do not gain weight and height with the same ratios at the same age, when Johnny was 5 month old there was a dog at his own age and he was taller than him now Johnny is over 3" taller than him. It all depends on genes so don't judge your dog till he matures.

I don't know when he will stop growing cause it is also depends on genes and vary from one dog to another, but Johnny stopped gaining height at around 14-15 months then he filled more and some people saying that he is still changing till now cause they don't see him often, Johnny is 30 months right now.

Hope this helps.

All takes time. They are not fully filled out and matured until about 3 years maybe older. My girl is 9 months old now (not sure how tall) but she weighs in at 65.3 pounds. She is very sleek, compact and muscular (from the looks of her now). But of course she still has a ton of growing to do!

Re: ? about Height etc..

When we adopted Ben at 10 months old, he was about the same height he is now - 24 inches at the shoulder. He has 'spread out' in the chest though.

Now, if Baron grows to match his fat head, we'll have one big boy on our hands - he is already 25 inches at the shoulder. The shelter guessed him to be about 2 yrs old...I think he's younger - maybe about 18 months.

I think the general rule of thumb is that they grow UP (taller) before they grow OUT (wider - fill out in the chest, etc...), at least that's what I've heard .

Guerin is coming up on 21 months and is still growing and filling out. I have heard and I suspect that it is true, they continue to fill out until around the age of 3. Anne I think you are spot on, they grow up and then out. That for sure is what we are seeing. Guerin is finally losing that scrawny, gawky look and filling out and looking like a big boy instead of a geeky teenager.

Trooper is 8 1/2 months 25" tall and weighs in at 90lbs exactly (just at the vet today!) They vary so much--I had a 26" female at 110 lbs and a 24" female at 70lbs. so you never know!

Re: ? about Height etc..

I was wrong about his height, I took him to the vet today and he is 20" and weighs 46 1/2 lbs, right now he is 5 months and 5 days old....gosh I wonder how much he'll weigh when hes 6 months old? will he weigh much more by then, and how much more in height he will be? Sorry if this sounds silly, but I just sit around and wonder all day about things liek this lol

Don't let yourself get overly concerned. You can figure on a dog gaining about 10 pounds a month for the first 8 or 9 months, then the weight gain will slow down. Just feed him good food, give him a lot of socialization experiences, and make sure he gets plenty of supervised exercise and train him properly.

Diesel will be 7 months next week. He's 24 inches tall and he weighs 73 pounds. He has gained about 10 per month but in the last month he only gained 3 pounds.

Re: ? about Height etc..

It's kind of fun to compare notes once in a while.
Raven is 4 months: 37.5#, 18.5". She's a bit taller and heavier boned than,
Sable @ 4 months was: 32#, 17". Matured slowly thru age 3: now, 90# and 24 ".

They grow up just fine!

PS: Sable was 60 lbs, 22.5" at six months. So don't be shocked. She doubled herself between 4 and 6 months. Yet the rest of her growth was fairly slow.
