Re: HELP! We don't want to get rid of our Rott, but have to by the 21st!

Who are the insurance companies that cover our sweet Rotts? Does anyone have names. I know Nationwide has an exclusion for them. Isn't that dumb! Names would be appreciated

State Farm and Allstate is where I would start for insurance. Call more then one agent if one says no. We have State Farm, no problems.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

I just bought a house and called around for quotes. State Farm and Liberty Mutual both had no problem with a Rottweiler, with no bite history. Liberty Mutual was cheaper so I went with them. Amica would accept them, and they will come out to meet the dog.

Good Luck,

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

Hey alex221 - we're practically neighbors! I'm in Oxford CT.

Anyways - Avengr13 & kevin2811 - we went with State Farm for insurance - I called at least TEN companies asking on policies regarding dogs and I was given a list of who won't insure what breed (ALL but State Farm said NO to homes with Rotties)...

Frustrating? You bet it is.... But the State Farm agent that came out to check out the house to get pics for thier files and meet the dogs - even brought cookies! He has a rottie/lab mix (he said more lab than rott as mom was lab/rott and dad was lab) and he loves the breed.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

Country Companies here in Illinois will. They do not have a banned breed list.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

We have Statefarm in NC. No problems at all.

They do state if there is a claim concerning the dogs they will not insure with the dogs anymore, but they will do a waiver and continue to insure your other property.

We had no home visit.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

We have State Farm as well. The first agent who came out my MIL had no idea about breed bans w/ insurance. The SF agent asked her what kind of dogs she told them a rottie and a labx. The SF agent said we don't cover rotties.

I went to another SF agent with an article from MSN about SF NOT breed banning (I didn't need to use it) and got insurance. All they asked was how many dogs I had, not breed.

I called the first SF agent and told him about the article. He said he had made an error and apologized. I think he was on a personal quest to not insure people w/ large dogs.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

If you will go to akc.org and type in "insurance" in the search box, it gives a pretty good overview of who will accept what, including the dreaded "banned breeds"...it's about the third heading down on the search page.

I have Farmer's insurance here in Virginia. No previous bite history, no problem. They will even insure my dog if I want.

First time insuring as I will be a first time home buyer. Not that it matters to me (my babies are worth every penny....er, dollar) but, how much has your Rottie increased your yearly premium. I know it can vary greatly by state and company, just curious.

I don't know if he has or not. He was the reason we bought our house so he was in the deal from the get go. I honestly don't remember them asking what breed he was, AJ said they did, but I don't remember.

Re: What homeowners insurance is Rottweiler friendly?

The premium I was quoted from Liberty & State Farm was the same with or without the dog.
