Re: question

each dogs take their own time to mature just like individuals.... so it varies but he should be getting there.

Re: question

Much if not most of his emotional and mental maturity stopped at the time of neutering. So, probably what you see is what you have.

Judi, I'm real curious about this statement. My first two rescues were full grown when I got them, but I recently got a puppy from NERR and he, like all rescues, has been neutered. Am I to expect him to act like a puppy the rest of his life? This is my first puppy, so I'm very interested in your thoughts on this.

Re: question

There was a tremendous amount of maturing that happened with my girl between ages 2 and 3. It's been a remarkable year. Absolutely amazing!

Now my friends male, according to her, was a bit odler. She said + 6 months. He is neutered, now but I'll have to ask what age he was done.

Re: question about maturity and age

Responsible rescue groups require and should require that all dogs they place be neutered and usually they are done before being placed. This is as it should be. Yes, early neutering does put a stop to much of mental and emotional maturity. For many people, that is not a bad thing.

Oh, my, and here I was thinking in another year Rocco would finally settle down. I guess I've got my bouncy, goofy boy for quite awhile then.! I guess you could count me in the "many people" because, no, I don't think that's such a bad thing. At least I've still got my reserved little Perle girl.

The above is one of the detrimental negative effects of castration.

Re: question about maturity and age

thanks for the info.it's weird sometimes he acts and sounds like a mature dog,and sometimes he just has that sound /bounce to him.either way we think he's just great.

he brings alot of laughter to our family.just the other day my family sat down on the couch and we watched him go off on the cieling fan that he couldn't reach.

Re: question about maturity and age

Well, I checked with my friend about how old her male was when she had him neutered. He was 3 and 1/2, so he definately fits in with what Judi and German are saying.
