lying posture

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Lot's of very helpful advice here. I'm fostering 'Max' -- a 2+ male neutered rottie/mastiff mix. He's a great dog. When he lies down on all fours he 'splays' his hips/back legs, so they are flat on the floor. Is he double-jointed? Is he a yoga dog? Is this normal?

Thanks!

Normal.....I call it the Frog Man position. Harley does this ALL the time. He has his back legs straight out behind him and his front legs staright out in front of him almost like he is flying. Pretty cute!

Re: lying posture

It's a well known fact the Rottweilers have SO MUCH confidence, they think they are beautiful from ANY angle! Enjoy! Every Rottie of my acquaintence does it.

Re: lying posture

I call it Frog Dog!

Parker typically only does it when he's hot and does it on the cooler tiles. He also likes to do it on the grass. I really do think that it's more because they enjoy the cooling effect of their bellies on the floor.

Re: lying posture

FROG DOG! Julius has just started doing that again for some weird reason. He used to do it all the time as a puppy & now he's doing it again! I think it's pretty cute!

Re: lying posture

I call it "turkey butt", especially when Winnie does it from under the bed. She looks like a turkey or chicken that is spread out, with only her hind legs showing from under the bed! I think it is so cute!

I noticed that too! Harley does it on the Cold Tile floor, on cold cement, On the grass and he will also do it on the bed if the sheets are exposed! hehehe

Re: lying posture

Brooke, maybe Julius is doing it again because the weather is warming up? Was he a summer puppy?

Re: lying posture

We call that laying position the centipede cause my cat does it too. When they get flat like that looks like the back end of a centipede. I know that sounds gross but thats all we could think of since we seen one that same day when it first happened LOL.

Re: lying posture

What about when they lay/sleep on their backs, legs splayed out everywhere. Chica often sleeps like that. I've never had another dog that did that. I often wake up in the morning and she's on her back snoring away...legs splayed. Is it a Rotti thang?

My Winnie does that all of the time. I've got pictures of her laying on the bed with my soon to be husband..laying right next to him..on her back with legs spread wide for all to see. She's not very cooth at times, but I still love her none the less.
