Should it be a concern if......

sometimes when my dog scratches himself with his back legs he cant do it. is it because he's heavy and cant carry his weight with one leg? i mean that's the only thing im concerned about. he's been able to scratch with his behind legs several times though but when he does it he cant do it so he sits down and then scratches. but other than that it doesnt seem like he's in pain. he runs around the house fast when he wants to play. fights with dolls when he's hyper etc. and my dog is about a little over 6 months and weights about 73 pounds. thanks

Being heavy is not good for his general health. At his age his bones are still maturing and they should not have to carry excess weight. If he's got good muscle tone and good bone structure 73 pounds at 6 months doesn't sound like that is too heavy. Can you easily feel his ribs but not see them? Does he have a tuckup where his tummy is? You should be able to answer yes to both of those questions.

It's always good to watch their weight. Part of that comes with quality feeding. But exercise is also really important. A trim dog is a healthy dog. Rottweilers are prone to knee problems and other joint related conditions. Excess weight only compounds those problems. There is no benefit to having an overwieght rottweiler
