Unhappy Bill C-22 Animal Cruelty Bill

Bill C-22 was previously known as Bill C-10B.

From my understanding, the VAST MAJORITY of it is RIGHT ON THE MONEY!

However, there are 2 points that people have brought up to me that have caused them concerns, that I'd like to bring up here.

1) Apparently it attempts to remove the word "owner" and replace it with "guardian". The problem with this is that as an 'owner', we have rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. An owner's property cannot be removed without due process. As a guardian - the requirements are severely loosened. As a guardian, you have no right to your pets as they are no longer property.
*I am still looking for this phrasing or reference.*

2) Causing undue or unnecessary pain or suffering. Although I agree with it - apparently, they're saying that this phrase will also include the removal of tails and dew claws as unnecessary pain or suffering. This requires more detail and is too vague to not be a blanket statement (next they'll say that a prong collar is causing undue pain or suffering - catch my drift?)
Phrase: "(a) causes or, being the owner, permits to be caused unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal;"

Assuming that the above impressions are true, I find it horrible that they are attempting to sneak in these PETA agenda items within a badly needed bill. If these items were deleted - I'm sure they'd receive MUCH more support on this bill. Until they do, I'm sorry to say that I have to oppose it, for fear of losing my rights to my pet.

P.S.

I *just* found this link to the full bill: http://www.parl.gc.ca/37/3/parlbus/c...3/90148bE.html
I'll be off reading for a bit.....

Exactly Squeaky. We so deperately need this. We need those who abuse, neglect and injure animals intentionally to be punished by the law! And extensively!

We just need some further definitions added and some PETA parts removed and it should SAIL! through! It's so sad that people would rather put their political agendas ahead of protecting the animals and the people who love them.
