Excited!

Hello all,

I am new here and this is my first post - I have been reading for a couple of weeks though and have learnt loads already!
I have put my name down with a very reputable breeder here in Scotland, and the pups are due this weekend... I am just really excited :D :D ! We want a female, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that the litter is OK :( and that they have at least two female pups (someone else got their name down first, so we are second in line!).
I have loads of questions that I will probably post in the next couple of months before I get my pup, but for now I just wanted to say hi, and what a great site! ;)
I have ordered the Rottweilers for Dummies book, and The Culture Clash, plus another one by the same author.
I already have a horse (I notice that plenty of other members do too!), and hope to one day have my rottie trained well enough to come alongside while I ride my horse!

Re: Excited!

Welcome & congratulations on your incoming puppy! You've ordered a couple of great books for starters. :)
Where in Scotland are you? I lived there for many years growing up; my mom's still there, on Skye.

Re: Excited!

Since you are getting your pup from a responsible breeder, please make that your first stop with your questions as your breeder knows you and the individual pup!

Re: Excited!

Carina, I am in Aberdeen on the East coast...

Judi W, I will certainly be asking the breeder, I just didn't want to harass them in the days leading up to the pups being born, plus I don't want to get overconfident about this litter because it may still not work out...

I originally joined here to ask questions about puppy training etc, but I have found answers to most already!

Please keep your fingers crossed for the puppies for me... I will post once I hear from the breeder....

Re: Excited!

Of course you are correct in reading, not just the internet, but books on raising puppies. Don't limit your reading to Rottweiler books, but canine behavior in general. You will have specific questions when you get your pup home but make sure you have a relationship with your breeder who will know the individual pup and the family characteristics. That can be most important,

Re: Excited!

Hi Dominey, welcome to the forum! How exciting, a new puppy! Will you be able to visit your puppy frequently before you bring it home? Have you thought of any names yet (I know it is kinda early for names still, but it is soooooo much fun thinking of names :D ).

What kind of horse do you have? I have three horses, two Arabians and a Quarter Horse.

Oh yeah, be forwarned, this forum is VERY addicting ;)

Re: Excited!

Thanks Judi W, I will certainly try and do that!
I am hoping they will let me go and visit them in a few weeks time as we will be travelling near that way then (they are on the other side of Scotland). I have also found the local breeders that I contacted when I was looking are very friendly and have offered help and advice too...

I think The Culture Clash is a canine behaviour one? The other one I ordered was Don't shoot the dog...
Are there any other books you would recommend?

Re: Excited!

Hi Carol,

thanks for the reply, I think I am pretty much addicted to this site already!
My horse is mostly thoroughbred, but with a bit of welsh cob (she is broader backed than most thoroughbreds!). She's a 10 y.o. black mare (very pretty, but very stubborn!!), so maybe good practice for a female rottie from what I am gathering!
I will hopefully visit the pup at least a couple of times before I get it... they will be a couple of hours drive away, and I don't want to harass them too much!
hmmm names, I had started thinking, but didn't want to jinx anything... I want a short name, with no "ie" sound at the end... I was thinking maybe Belle

Re: Excited!

Belle is a very pretty name! Be sure and let us know when the puppies are born and if there is a female in there for you ;)

I bet your mare is beautiful. I love black! Someday I want a black or dark bay Arabian mare. Somehow I always end up with chesnuts

Re: Excited!

Aberdeen - I've lived on Skye (graduated high school there), Edinburgh when I was much younger, & uni in Glasgow.

Other good books are anything by Ian Dunbar or Pat Miller. My dog Cooper & I are pictured in Pat Miller's latest book - "Positive Perspectives." :) We are demonstrating "Leave It."

Hello and welcome! Don't you just want to be May and pick up your pup? time goes so slow when you wait for one,.. I know!
Well, I have all the books above, including "Raw Dog food' (by Carina Beth MacDonald :D ) but about training and behaviour my favourites so far is "The power of positive dog training"by Pat Miller and "The other end of the leash" by Patricia B.McConnel (I absolutely love this one!!!).
