| Need Help - Don't know what to do!!! Hello, I am not that new to the forum. I visit the forum often and have received lots of good information by doing so. Not sure if anyone remembers me. I am the owner of KINGSTON II. He will be 1yrs old on March 7th. I got him from a reputable breeder in PA. He has turned out to be a wonderful companion to me, my husband (especially) and three kids - 7,9, & 12. Much better than the first - (Kingston I) we got. Anyway, I needed some help. We are in the process of relocating to a new home. However, due to unforseen circumstances, the house will not be ready in time for us to make a transition from our current home into the new home. Therefore, my family and I have to rent an apartment. this is the problem, every apartment complex that I encounter has a pet policy. They allow for you to have pets (dogs, cats, etc.) but, they have restrictions on rotts, pits, dorb, & labs. I have looked everywhere. Now I am stuck because Kingston is my baby and we have nowhere for him to go. I don't want to sell him because he is our family. I don't have any family members that can keep him for me and the 1 friend that lives close to me know is fearful of dogs. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could possibly do? I was told that there are kennels that will keep your pets in these types of situations. I will need about 2 mos. Please Help!!!! If possible. :( |

| Re: Need Help - Don't know what to do!!! Have you tried looking into renting a house. Many will rent cheaper then apartments and are more likely to allow dogs. People with mobile homes on land usually rent really cheap and usually always allow dogs. You may have to pay a deposit or move into a less desirable area, but as you said, you will soon have a home, so it will not be forever. Many people will rent homes for 6 months as long as they know when you are leaving so they can keep the ad going.

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! You could check with local rescue groups as well. Most rescues have the ongoing problem of too many dogs to help and not enough foster homes, but you might hit it lucky and find a group that has an opening and will take him in for you until you can bring him to your new home. It's worth a try! |

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! First, it may be difficult to find an apartment for only two months. As a landlord, I can tell you I have to be pretty desparate to let a unit for such a short period of time. This is because of the cost I incur between tenants. A dog only makes things worse. The dog also may be the excuse used because of the short rental term. That being said, there is hope. Where are you at? In most major metro areas and nearby there is such a thing called executive housing. It is meant for those who are coming to town on business and will be there for several months. It will work for your situation as well. Normally this is a little more expensive than a standard apartment, but when you take into account the fact that the utilities are all paid and furniture rental is included, it doesn't work out that bad. When I was having to make use of these services you could pick and choose what you needed or wanted as far as furniture. The less you chose the lower the rent. You can find these services through most apartment finder companies or realators. If there is a big company in your area you can also call and ask thier human resources person who they use for temporary accomodations. The placement services should also be able to help you find a place that will take your dog. When going to interveiw for either the apartment or with a placement service, take along all the documentation you may have on the dog, vaccinations, obedience school certs, titles or awards, etc. This will help dispell any negative notions held by the interveiwer. Unfortunately, if there is a pre-existing policy against your dog, you will have a hard time overcoming it. My policy is; if it's a policy it has to stay in place or be eliminated, if it's OK for one, it has to be OK for all. The only breed ban in place at my apartments is against a species - - Snakes - - my wife can't stand 'em. Me, I don't care :p

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! Thanks for everyones feedback. I will check all the resources that have been suggested. We are in the relocating to South Jersey. I will start looking for all suggested possibilities. I did find an apartment complex for short stay leases however, when I told them I had a 1yr old rottie, they kindly shut me down. The kennel suggestion sound interesting. But my concern is how it will affect Kingstson. He is well socialized, but he really enjoys being with us and the kids. Not sure if they will provide that attention. Not that he needs a lot. But just me concerns. Is there some where out there that some people provide short term shelter? I dont know but again I will start me search for the noted...suggestions. Thanks |

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! I have been in your situation when Blaise was a young dog... I had to leave my current digs b/c of him and couldn't find a place right away. I found a boarding kennel that I really liked and kept him there... luckily it was just for 2 weeks at a time and then another 2 week period. I made arrangements to go visit him daily and walk him... It was a bit of an extra expense but I wouldn't have it any other way b/c I made the commitment to HIM. Good LUCK...

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! Absolute worst case scenerio, this is only a suggestion: I know that most Knights Inn's take pets, could you rent out a room for a couple months, just so you could be together, or maybe one family member?? Or another hotel that is also pet friendly??? Just a thought.

As far as finding a place with him for the short term...you may have better luck boarding him. Try to find a boarding kennel that is smaller and where the dogs get some personal time with walks, playtime, etc. I've had dogs boarding with me for as long as 6 months and they really did not seem affected. The only problem was when it was time to leave...they did not want to leave me. :) Gina

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! Great info. I was searching on the internet and found several kennels in South Jersey that board dogs. We are scheduling a visit to the kennels next week to check them out. They all seemed well kept and accomodating. Again, thanks for the suggesstions BTW---I did not get Kingston from Kimbertal. |

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! Just eating my dinner when I saw your post. I came across this site: http://www.dogfriendly.com/ when I was thinking about potentially travelling with my dog (for work - it was a long shot, but I thought I would look into it). I haven't gone through the site in detail, but maybe you can find something useful there? I figured it couldn't hurt to try and pass it along. Good luck! :) |

| Re: Need Help finding Rott friendly accomodations- Don't know what to do!!! I was going to call my breeder as a last resort. Only because the breeder is so far away. I would not be able to see Kingston as often as we would like. I will check out the website (www.dogfriendly.com) and see what resources are their. I did find one located in Galloway, NJ. It seems nice. We are scheduling to go there next week. I told them my situation and they seem like they are willing to help. I will keep you posted. |
