Question about fencing for rotties.

As most of you know, I adopted a 2 year old neutered male rottweiler about 3 weeks ago. I was not fully prepared for a rottweiler yet, as I was planning on fencing in part of my yard first and then getting a puppy, but Conan came into the picture, and I couldn't say no, because I was afraid he would be put to sleep, and he is such a good boy!

Anyway, I will now be fencing in part of my yard within the next week and have a couple of questions. First, I live in the country, on a dirt road, with very few neighbors, and have 10 acres of land. I am planning on fencing part of my yard, which would include my side door entering my laundry room. The area will be approximately 60 feet by 60 feet. This will be the area that Conan, who is 103 pounds, will be able to play and get excersise in. Is this big enough for him?

I know you are supposed to have a 6 ft high fence, but my husband really does not want to go that high. I was wondering what you thought about a 5 foot chainlink fence with a strand of electric wire running along the bottom and a strand of electric wire on the top? I figure with a couple of pops, he wouldnt go near the fence at all? He is staying in 4 foot fence now and hasnt climbed out of it yet.

Re: Question about fencing for rotties.

Yes, that is a big enough area. If you are going to put in chain link, 6 foot only costs pennies more than 5 foot and you won't need to add an electric wire. You will find it is penny wise and pound foolish to go with less than 6 foot and I'm not going to tell you it is OK. Do it right the first time
