1 y/o, paws still HUGE

I was noticing the other day that while Wookie is 1 year old and is a pretty big girl 28" at shoulders and somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 lbs. (sounds like a lot, but she's still really lean and leggy), her paws are still HUGE. Do ya'll think this means anything as to her future growth, or does she maybe just have abnormally large paws? (hehe, she's the Peggy Hill of the doggy world :p ).

Nah, it just means she is the Peggy Hill of the doggie world as you put it.

It was funny, when we first got Romeo at 10 weeks old everyone was saying he would be tiny because his paws were so small. Well, his paws grew faster than he did and I call them bear paws. I didn't know how big they were until he stole a ruler off the desk yesterday. Well whats a girl to do but take it away, measure his paws and snap a photo. ;)

He is about 6 1/2 months old, his paws are just over 3" wide, and hopefully done growing!

PuppyLover is right. My girl is 2½ now and she has always had large paws. She also is 90 lbs but isn't tall, she's very thin -- and it's not easy keeping her that way. LOL

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

Nah...growth at this point will be negligable, I'm sure. Did ya ever notice? Some PEOPLE who are the same size have huge feet.

Off the subject: My aunt and uncle picked on me when I was a kid because I had "big feet". It was apparently THE part of me that grew fast.

I'm only a size 7, now, but in comparison to their daughter (same age) then...well, I was supposed to grow to be "tall!" What a joke! I'm 5'3". My cousin, Lynn, BTW is also 5'3" and her foot is an 8...so who has big feet now?

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

WOW! She is a BIG girl at 28"! I thought Keil was big, but not compared to your girl ;) Keil is 27" and still has ALOT of leg. Thankfully he has started to fill out some and weighs 110 pounds now. Akasha is only 23" (if I remember correctly) and weighs 80 pounds. We haven't measured them in a couple of months, but I don't think they have really grown any more as far as height goes.

Your girl is going to be a very big girl when she is done growing. How big are her parents?

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

She's a Humane Socitey Special, so I don't know ANYTHING about her including what her parents looked like, temperment, etc. It kind of drives me crazy sometimes, but I don't think I could possibly love her more, so it really doesn't matter.

BTW, I took her to the vet on Friday and weighed her and she's still only 85 lbs. so I was wrong on the 90 lb thing. It's so hard to accurately guesstimate weight.

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

If I'm measuring the correct bit I get about 20-21 inches. Can't get her to stand that still. :) How big or small is that for an almost 5 month old pup?

daniel67, thanks, yep we think he is handson too. :D

Dante's Dad, Romeo loves watching the wild life but unfortunatly our back yard is only 35' deep. The land is owned by the state and they plant some type of grassy stuff in it that gets waist high. The only time we can run out there is after they cut it down in early September and before they spread manure on it and disc it in November.

Thanks, and yep, 27 pounds in 23 days. I triple checked the scale at the vets, and before I entered the weight on his web page I checked the vet records 5 times to make sure I wasn't missing a page.

The rest of you talking about how tall your pups are. We never measured Romeo, I will have to try that tonight when someone can keep him distracted for me.

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

You measure height from the shoulder. I'm sure there's a website somewhere out there that is more specific as to where exactly to measure from.

Thank Polly, I would have measured him at the hips because he is taller there by at least an inch.

Re: 1 y/o, paws still HUGE

My rescue baby just turned a year. When I got her at 12 weeks of age, she was the size of my corgis. Now she is 27" at the shoulders and weighs.....a lot. She is still very leggy and has huge feet. She had become quite a bulldozer. When she fills out I think maybe I will have to change her name to "Sherman"
