Crating

Do any of you use anything in your crates? Currently Ace has a bed in his, but I am not sure if he likes it or not. Before he had the bed he would go into his crate to lie down a few times during the day, now he seems to ignore it and prefers to lie down on the tile floor in the kitchen or the wood floor in the hallway. I know these are much cooler and he probably likes that. I am just wondering if he would be happier on just the floor than with something soft to sleep on.

Re: Crating

Brodie has a blanket in his crate with him. When we first got him he was not allowed to have anything other than a toy in his crate. We found out the hard way that chew proof beds are not always Rottie-proof beds . He didn't seem to mind just having the plastic crate tray to lie on. He does tend to go into his crate more frequently for naps since he's had a blanket put in there though.

You could always try taking the bed out of the crate and seeing what he does. He may just be getting to hot lying on the bed.

Sam has a blanket in her crate but she messes around with it until it is bunched up under her head. I aloud her to have half of my kitchen area at night which has carpet on it for about 2 month now and she still prefers the crate over the carpet.

Re: Crating

Julius has about 3-4 thick, woolen-type blankets in his crate that we got from Wal Mart. They're the only ones that we've found that he really doesn't munch on. Julius isn't in his crate that much anymore unless we're going to be gone for the day. But when he is we usually throw in one of his Nylabones or his Kong Ball stuffed with some fun stuff.

:)

Re: Crating

Zack has a pillow in is crate because he like to have something under his head when he sleeps. He had a planket in the crate before, he didn't like that at all, he used to put the planket outside before going in.

Rocco didn't like anything in his crate - he preferred just the tray. Anything I tried, he just tore to shreds. For the short time Perle was crated, I had an afghan in the bottom and she seemed to like that.

Re: Crating

For the first few months Romeo had a nice carpeted floor. When he hit about 5 months he turned it into a chew toy and we had to take it away. He has an old quilt now and loves it.

Re: Crating

Dante sleeps in an empty crate, we have the plastic kind. He would always take his blanket out and go to sleep in his crate! Kinda wierd!

Re: Crating

Rocko wont lay on anything that isnt soft, fluffy and warm. She has a quite expensive memory foam pillow (my old "contour pillow") and a wool blanket in her crate.

Keiko has only a thin old blanket spread on the bottom of his and he spends quite a bit of time in there so I dont think I'll mess with it...

I would try removing the bed, maybe place it next to the crate for a while and see which he uses
