Help End Breed Discrimination By Insurance Companies

Rec'd from the ASPCA. If this has happened to you, PLEASE, PLEASE tell teh ASPCA your stories. They are working hard to try and help end insurance discrimination. they are a big group, who has a lobby in DC and with our support and NUMBERS we can help turn this around! Thanks! Permission to send this info to anyone you know of any breed that this has happened to!

Has your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy been cancelled or
denied because of your dog? More and more homeowners across the United
States are finding themselves having to choose between keeping their
beloved companion canine and obtaining insurance--just because their
perfectly behaved, friendly dog belongs to a breed that the insurance
company has deemed unacceptable.

Here at the ASPCA, we want to see that insurers look to the "deed" of
the dog rather than the breed! To that end, we've previously called on
ASPCA News Alert readers to tell us their stories. Now we are asking
you to contact your state's Insurance Commissioner to let him or her
know of the difficulties you have encountered. For more on the issue,
please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center
http://www.aspca.org/site/R?i=M_lxuIMXnpoXSXLRAGHJvQ..
where you'll be able to send a letter to your official today.

Re: Help End Breed Discrimination By Insurance Companies

This has been posted on here before (once by myself). I think it's good that someone keeps bringing it up. I also received this from ASPCA today.
Anyway, I did exactly as this letter said to do by writing my state insurance commissioner in November. I did receive an email letter from his office thanking me,etc. I also sent a letter to my then insurance company (Travelers) informing them that I wrote to the commissioner to inform him of their denial of renewal of my homeowners insurance based on having two Rottweilers. I also told them I was cancelling my auto insurance with them and wanted nothing to do with their insurance company. Of course, Traveler's made no reply to my letter. I had also received an actual paper letter from the commissioner's office. I will be moving soon and when I get settled again I will write the commissioner's office again to find out if there is any kind of update concerning this issue. There have been too many of us being denied insurance based on this dumb reason.

Re: Help End Breed Discrimination By Insurance Companies

I had posted a thread last week venting my frustration on this issue. I have already found a new company that will take me and my big guy on and I have made arrangements to switch. I am going to send a letter to my agency and the company that will not write my homeowner's policy. Thanks for the info, I will send letters here too!
