| Need a stronger chew toy! I am looking for a very strong and safe chew toy! Dante loves to sit and chew things, so we give him toys that he can chew instead of tearing up the house. This has worked well, but he had destroyed all his toys, giant kong, other kong products, nyla (sp?) bones, etc. What are you guys giving your dogs that they dont destroy in a week? thanks

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! Why don't you try giving him a natural soup bone (marrow)? They make an excellent chew and will pass hours of time even for a real agressive chewer. |

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! The Galileo! They're pricey, but my guys chew on them for MONTHS! I think I might have had one for a year once...The only problem I have is that they don't like them fresh out of the package, I have to "marinate" them in m y really stinky dirty clothes before they'll chew on them.

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! No, marrow or soup bones will not splinter. Just don't cook them. You may want to give him the bone in his crate so he doesn't make a mess in the house. If you have time to watch him, you could put down a plastic sheet and tell him to chew the bone on that. |

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! I agree with the soup bone. They're inexpensive, good for the teeth & keep Julius occupied for quite awhile. Julius also has a Galileo Nylabone which he enjoys & hasn't really even dented yet. :) Brooke

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! Nylabone has a new product out called "Big Chews For Big Dogs" and they are great. They come in different shapes to look like real big bones and are flavoured..the girls love them.

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! I've seen the suggestion for tires as a toy too. (The kind without the medal band running through it)

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! The soup bone is a good choice, but don't let them chew it inside,, put them outside with it. Kills two birds with one stone, get's them out of the house and occupied for awhile (other than their walks) and they get to chew chew chew |

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! Addy gets a marrow bone almost everyday - can't say she chews on it for 'hours' though. I give them to her straight out of the freezer (good tip from Brooke a while back!) ... She goes through the big ones pretty fast ... but they are inexpensive. I get good sized bones from the butcher - and also have picked them up at the grocery store. She's 2. How old is yours? I'm wondering if the younger ones go through their chews faster?? I too have heard of the tires as a good chew ... are we talking bicycle or car?

Wheelbarrow size tires work great.

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! I use raw marrow bones. But I've never had the dogs make a mess. What 'cha all got out there? Marrow mess or slobber? Mine suck up every drop of marrow, and meat. I give them inside all the time. Then they keep a stash of the freshest ones in the toy bin. A solid wheelbarrow (tricycle) tire works well for a friend of ours as a toy. We have the solid rubber (big) jolly ball with the rope drawn thru it. Now, that, I DO have outside. Otherwise there'd be broken glass and furniture all over the place.

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! Thanks guys, there are some good ideas.......... Dante is 10 months old and I think that has alot to do with how much he chews. He goes right through the king kong in about a week, he loves to just sit and chew for hours some times!. Thanks again!

| Re: Need a stronger chew toy! We have one of those Jolly balls too. She loves it and ours is outside as well! There is another solid rubber one with a sort of handle? I always thought the handle might get chewed off after a while. We use Raw Marrow bones quite a bit. No splintering when they are RAW. :) The thought was kinda icky the first time, but I got over it.
