Im an newbee to this site and my Rottie

I have been lurking here for about 2 months, I finally decided I needed to post and let everyone know how helpful you all have been to me and my family. My Family consists of an English bulldog that is almost 6 we call him Haskell the Rascal.
To get to my story, I have a family member that brought this beautiful 9 month old Rottie down from Arizona, well to say the least she was a bad mom. She had no home so she dropped him off at her father’s house and that was about it. Well as soon as I saw him I fell in love, but thought I have know idea what to do with a dog that big and the potential to get bigger. So I found a wonderful home (with some friends of mine) that lost their Rottie almost 2 years ago to diabetes, well when the dogs health started to deteriorate at the first house(they never let him in the house) and we live in Cal and it gets hot here. His ears started to get eaten by the flies and I could not take it anymore, finally with a lot of persuading. I was finally able to go and get him and place him in this wonderful home, with wonderful parents. Well they took himin and loved him, they took him to the vet to get him altered and his due claws removed, well the vet said that he had a heart murmur and they would not operate. Well we called the Rottie Rescue, out here they sent us to a great vet ( cardiologist ) he said on a scale of 1-5 he was 4 +, the doc said he would not live much longer. Well after losing one Rottie and I had always told them he always had a home at my home. We discussed it and now, I belong to him. His name is Bullet, he has owned me for 10 months now. (The vet said he only had a few weeks maybe a month or two)

I of course was totally confused by this very active dog, I am owned by a couch potato you know. (Haskell) Well I was very concerned for his health and wanted to make him as happy and loved as possible. With the help of all of you and other forums I read this transition has been very easy for both of us. I have lost a few shoes and have a couple of holes to china in my back yard, but he’s still a pup and we are always working together to make us the best that we both can be. He is way to smart and such a big love, he sleeps in my bedroom on my side of the bed on the floor. He is very loving with our Bulldog and I think he thinks he's one also. Bullet has now become a couch potato, which I think is good for his condition. Well to add to this very long story, the girl came back about a month ago to visit, she and her boyfriend were still trying to get me to give him back so they could breed him. As a lover of well breed dogs, I absolutely refused and told them to take a long walk on a short bridge. I for one know, I’m not doing this breed any good, all I know is that I’m doing him some good and he has taken my breath away with how much I adore him and his breed. He is very smart and like I said we work together daily, he loves everyone. Till my bulldog talked to him about the postman, now they both think it’s funny to bark thru the door and scare the dickens out of him. I don’t condone this but what’s a gal to do.

I guess I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for all of the help that you all have provided Bullet and me. We both thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I don’t know where we would have been with out this forum.

Thanks again

:D Hahaha! Good for you.
Bullet sounds like a very lucky dog to have you...I'd imagine I'd be a bit on edge having a dog with a heart condition - does he need any special care?

My dog's mom-

It was incredibly kind and open-hearted of you to take Bullet into your home despite the negative diagnoses. I'm really impressed by your selflessness; you must have a very loving nature. Have fun with him, and good luck to you both! And please post pictures of Bullet as soon as you become a full member- we'd love to see him.

P.S.- You also have a great username! :)

My dog's mom - Welcome to Rottie dot net. So glad that you're here. You have done a wonderful thing by taking Bullet into your heart and home. Where are you in California? I used to live in the Antelope Valley so I know how hot it gets there. Keep us posted on Bullet's condition and post pictures of both your guys, Bullet and Haskell the Rascal.

Re: Im an newbee to this site and my Rottie

Again you all amaze me with your love and understanding. I so thank you all for not bashing me for not putting him down, I just could not, not till he shows signs of being in pain or even worst. This big guy of mine has been thru a lot and I just wanted him to know that he deserves as much love as we can give him. He truly is a blessing in our home, I did not realize how much Haskell needed a brother.

As for extra care I give him homeopathic stuff, I think that heart meds would be ok too. But the Doc did not say it was necessary, since he told us that he would be gone in just a few. Well I have him on a very strict diet, and every night I make him and myself a cup of Jasmine tea. At first he did not take to it until he realized that mom was drinking it also. This is supposed to help with heart conditions, I also give him special vitamins and make sure he has the best food money can buy. We keep him as calm as possible and limit his walks to just about a block a day. Plus he gets to play in the yard all day long, and let me tell you I have a pretty big yard and he utilizes every part of it.

But let me ask you all something, Haskell knows that he does his business in the dog run but Bullet thinks my grass is his green way to heaven. And now is turning all of my grass brown, I think he does not like the dirt on his feet while doing his business but sometimes I look out and he is following Haskell and well they both take turns in the dog run. But when I turn my back (Bullet and Haskell are double poopers) Bullet is in the grass making a nice land mind for me. I don’t want to restrict him but I guess I’m going to have to, unless some one else has a better idea. I don’t mind picking it up but my whole back yard belongs to him to run and play but pooping takes place in one area. I do understand he is a pup and been thru a lot but follow the old guy so mom does not loose her grass which I worked very hard to plant.

We live in the Valley so it gets very hot here.

Also, does anyone ever take their dog on a boat??? And if so how do they do??? We snowboard and boat all the time but leave the boys home as to not over heat or over exert them. My Bulldog loves water but can not swim a stroke he sinks like an anchor. As for Bullet I have not wanted to hurt him so I leave him home and their Auntie comes and stays with them, she loves them almost as much as I do.

Thanks again for all your kind words. I only have 3 babies.

Haskell (English bulldog) 6 years and counting
Bullet (my most fabulous Rottie) almost 2 and counting on many more
Kitty ( LJ ) 10 and still giving me hell about the dogs.

Re: Im an newbee to this site and my Rottie

Try teaching him to take care of business in one corner of the yard instead of the whole thing. Or you could put him on a leash and stay in the dog run with him until he goes. Praise him a lot when he does. A couple of days of that and he should figure it out.

Many members have dogs that love to go boating and swimming. Heck, one of the ladies has a rottweiler that has competed in a dock dog competition!

Re: Im an newbee to this site and my Rottie

Oh my god that is so cool. Maybe if it's not to hot I will have to get him a life jacket and take him. As for staying with him while he does his business he is shy, so maybe i could make an effort to try and cure him of this, he does not even pee while on walks I think he does not want to offend me. :) It's too funny thou my bullie squats to pee (he has very short legs) sawed off at the knees I call him. Well bullet lifts a leg, but the other day I was watching thru the window and he squatted like Haskell I almost fell over. Now my Bullie is trying to lift his leg and he almost fell over. :) I almost peed myself watching my boys change positions.
Hey how do I post pictures I have some great shots of them playing with their toys.
