New Pet Beds

I just purchased 2 36"x45" Knife Edge Pillows made by Companion Road from Petsmart (couldn't resist, they were 30$ each)...

The dogs love them, but eventually we're going to have to clean them. The outside liner is easy, take out the stuffing and throw the liners inside the washing machine/dryer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the stuffing? The last set we had I was able to throw it in the washer, but putting it in the dryer proved disastrous (the dryer melted the fabric that contained the stuffing). I'm hesistant to let it air dry (I think it would be too slow and contribute to mold/mildew formation in the stuffing)... Any suggestions?

Re: New Pet Beds

Gezzz...I would like to know how to clean the stuffing too! If I knew how I could have saved a lot of beds that had been vomited on! Yes, the outer liner is easy and can be thrown in the wash, but I always thought that if you tried to wash the inner stuffing that it would get all clumpy and be ruined.....I will be looking forward to reading the other posts....

Easy...just go to the local fabric store, Walmart, craft store and buy those big bags of poly fiber fill. Throw out the old stuffing and put in the new. That is what I do.

Re: New Pet Beds

How old our your dogs with these beds?

I am wondering cause I would love to buy one for Dante but have a feeling that at 10 months old he would try to chew it at every chance he gets.

By the way Grade 3 starts tonight and I cant wait to get going with the training class again, he is good at home now, but cant wait to learn more techniques!

Re: New Pet Beds

Our Dante is 2.5 years old... Aedia is probably around 4-5 years old.
If you want to be on the safe side, I would wait until he is a year and a half...

What a good idea! I had never thought of the fiber fill...duh! Now that I know this, it's time to go bed shopping for two new beds!

Re: New Pet Beds

Wait till a year and a half? Meaning he will have settled down then?
I hope he stops chewing his bedding soon, I feel awfull that he sleeps in his crate without a blanket or anything, but I just dont want him to choke!

Re: New Pet Beds

Costco sells a really nice bed for $20. I buy at least one new one or two a year throwing out the older ones. Yes, I wash the cover, but it seems at that price easier to purchase another bed than to mess with replacing the stuffing. Of course it helps that no one vomits at my house.

Re: New Pet Beds

I wash a lot of things that aren't intended for the washer OR dryer. Hang them in the spare bedroom under a ceiling fan for a couple of days...voila.

That's also why they invented Febreze.

That is where we are going to get our new beds from. My daughter was telling me earlier today about the ones at Costco. We need to get a couple of them and $20. sounds like a great deal! ;)

Re: New Pet Beds

Nearest Costco to me is Cleveland... I miss Costco. I still have my membership card in hopes that they'll open one up in Columbus.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
